lawgonebusiness - Now I am on the edge of my seat following your story. I did not see anything like this in last year's thread.

I am very surprised indeed. But I assume it's something good. Otherwise why would she want to meet me??
Best of luck~!

There aren't even any CBS events @ Boston next Thursday. I'll take this positively.
My two cents: May be your interviewer didnt submit a complete feedback, but the school is very happy with your app and just want to confirm that before they give you a final offer....just my thoughts :)

Stay Positive.

Indeed, good luck! Perhaps this is the final piece to push your application over...

I heard about something like this in last year's forum. The admissions committee emailed an applicant, and mentioned to him/her that they wanted to call him/her in person to ask a few more questions. As it turned out, the applicant didn't have ready access to a phone because the applicant was doing work in a remote area of the world. The admissions committee then accepted the applicant the next day or so. Good luck!

Thanks for the info! I applied on May 11. So I hope to be the first ED admit.

Edge of my seat too :-D

One things for certain - The new ED schedule has generated TONS of traffic way earlier than any of the other schools - look at this thread - 34pgs right now and no other school is past the single digits even! If the goal was to generate interest earlier in the year, it worked. I'm sure in a couple months the other school threads will get busy but CBS is dominating the gossip/talk right now.

To those who have received interview invites, I'm curious to know how you selected your interviewers. Did you send requests out to a few simultaneously and scheduled an interview with the first person who replied?

For me, I sent an email to one person, and she replied pretty much in an hour with possible dates and times. So I didn't have to email other people.

How long would you have waited before sending out another request to someone else?

I emailed 2 and got one response immediately. I would wait for one day for response.

i think its awesome news getting an invite to meet the dean. You may construe that you are "on the fence" that she needs to meet with you first rather than just admit, and perhaps that is the case, but few get the opportunity to have extra face time with people that help you get in (in this case the dean!) So just wow her and be yourself. This will get you over the hump i'm sure.

Thanks for the encouragement. I will like to think it's a good sign. Just that no one had similar experience before. I keep wondering if I am a may-be, why would she want to meet me, cos there are probably tons of may-be's.

@lawgonebusiness: Just a thought...Could it be the fact that you only got 1 interview request response that the adcom wants you to have the second one but no available alums, so they decided to do it themselves? Are you in close proximity to Boston anyways?

I had an interview with an alum 4 weeks ago in Boston.

I heard about this at other schools. From what I've heard, I don't know if it pertains to Columbia as well, the admissions committee likes the applicant, but the committee could not make a decision because the interview did not accomplish its goal. In your case, this may be true because I think you said your interviewer took a while to submit his/her comments. The interviewer did not give the committee enough information or the information it wanted.

Not to give you false hope but I would probably take this as a good sign.

Wow, you're right. Columbia incoming class is heavily skewed towards Finance! So they'll have only 28 students with an IT background (but not into consulting). Interesting!

E-Commerce/Internet................................................................................................1.5
Hardware/Software, Services/Telecommunications......................................2.0

Talk about a well-rounded and diverse class

I noticed that part too how they combined all the software/techie folk. It seems like they define "Consulting" , either as an industry or a functional area, to mean management or strategy consulting. That being said, I wonder where all the IT consultants (like me) go? I'm guessing in the small 2% category.

I have the same concern....I do a lot of the control audit on the IT side, and I had a hard time deciding whether to choose accounting/control or choose IT/IS as job function. I assume that's where they decide which "pool" to put you in...??

I reread the "Entering Class of 2009 Profile" handout: https://www4.gsb.columbia.edu/null?&excl ... _id=731889, and I/we have misread it. There is no mention of prior job functions/industries of the incoming class students. It only lists the industries and functions in which 2008 graduates were placed.
