Thanks. So, that math puts it at about a 33% admit rate after interview. I wish we had better odds. I was hoping for closer to 50%.

Especially given that they essentially make everyone travel to Ithaca simply for the darn interview.

I have some slightly more favorable numbers I want to throw out there. They are derived from numbers given by Cornell adcom so take them with a grain of salt

According to an accepted.com chat, Cornell accepted 19% of applicants last year and, according to the same chat, they interviewed 45%. 19/45= 42% admit rate after interview.

well 33 percent is based off Ryguys' 50 percent get interviewed.

How do we know 50 percent is correct?

I highly doubt its 50 percent. I was on phone with them, and the guy seemed a litttle confused, but I think he said (because i asked how many get interviewed), last year it was between 1/4 and 1/3 got interviews.

This makes more sense than 50 percent. 1/4 seems too small, obviously, but I think 1/3 is closer to the truth than is 50 percent.

Schools that do invitation only interview, I highly doubt only accept 33 percent of those they interview. The whole point of invitation only is to get the group down to a reasonable number that can then be further adjudicated with an interview. I doubt its easier to knock 2 out of three people based off an interview than it is to accept 1 out of 2. Remember, HBS accepts around 50 percent of those they interview.

Or maybe this is a bunch of wishful thinking on my part.

Well I agree with your wishful thinking! haha. According to BW, 2 years ago Cornell only interviewed 33%. That would be in line with your reasoning and what the guy on the phone said. I tend to agree that interviewing 50% doesn't make much sense. Maybe back when Cornells admit rate was in the 30's but not now that it's in the teens. Also, the statement on the Ask Johnson thread that they accept under 50% makes me think slightly under 50 (maybe mid 40's) not 33%.

Randall did say in his most recent Accepted.com chat that R1 interview invites went out to about 50% of R1 applicants.

Quote:
That being said, our interview percentage from Round 1 should be in line with past years - about 50%.

I also remember from my class visit, that someone explained slightly more than half of R1 applicants interviews received offers of admission. I simply refuse to believe 2 out of 3 R1 applicants interviewed will be dinged by Johnson.

Based on reason and gut instinct alone, I am going to say more than half of us being interviewed in R1 are going to get accepted. C'mon folks, 50+% selectivity. We GMATClubbers can pull this off!

Columbia accepts about 1/3 of its interviewed applicants.

But Columbia interviews with an army of alums and Cornell tries to make everyone come to campus for pretty intensive interviews (that even include notes from the readers of your app).

That number however, based on anecdotal evidence from sources in the Hermes Society, varies considerably between 50-55% for ED (somewhat similar to R1?) to 25-30% for RD.

I can understand 33% of applicants interviewed being accepted in Cornell's R3, but in R1? That doesn't sound right.

I have no idea how many AMBA applicants got their invites. Are you an AMBA applicant as well?

winstonct
Hi, Can you share with us some of your stats?

Also do you know how many AMBA applicants have gotten their interview invites?

spideyeclipse27
Had my Cornell interview last week and here is a review.

For AMBA program:
I flew in that day morning. The admissions representative in the office is a very nice guy and takes care of you as you show up. I did a class visit. It was a strategy class. The professor kept the class interactive. There was decent amount of cold calling. Overall, I liked the class. There was also a decent amount of humor that made the class fun. Students were very welcoming and they took the initiative to talk about the program.

The interview was non-conversational and driven by the interviewer.

Anyone know what time R2 applications are due on 11/17?

Some schools are 11:59, some are 5:00... I'd rather not bother admissions to ask, if possible.

These things just always seem to come down to the wire.

TIA, good luck everyone with your interviews.

It took a few days for my app to go to "Complete" after my interview but I was also done really really early in the interview period.

I'd imagine it's just a matter of them getting backed up with putting stuff into the computer now that they are in the heavy interview part of the schedule.

I hate how mysterious this process is...

Does Cornell call for admission or do you get an email/status change?

Ryan

P.S. I went complete and interviewed same day as Ben

Manbilla,

Based on last year's thread you get a DHL/FedEx confirmation number if you're in and just a status check email if you're Dinged. I don't think it was consistent across the board though so it may be different this year.
