Not sure, however I was reviewing last year's timeline and it looks like they didn't even start sending out invites until late February. It looks like the bulk of the interviews didn't come until about 2 weeks before decisions were made. Seems like Cornell waits the longest of all the T15 schools to extend invites..

what exactly do they verify on your app? employment history, education, criminal record etc? sorry if i sound paranoid, just want to make sure i know what to expect. is it similar to the background checks most people undergo when joining a new company?

. Perhaps the more time consuming process is making sure you can show them enough cash. You'll need something to the tune of 150k in liquid assets, so I'd get started on that.

How does it work? Do you have to prove you have this money by yourself or can you use the assets from your parents and relatives?

Formula: Own savings, loans from family members, loans from banks in your country. Of course, the amount depends on your financial situation, borrowing potential with family (income bracket) and loan culture. In some low income countries, banks are reluctant to lend big education loans to students.

How does it work? Do you have to prove you have this money by yourself or can you use the assets from your parents and relatives?

You can use assets of parents, relatives, friends, etc. Pretty much anybody who can give you a letter of sponsorship (your sponsor writes it, there is no set format), it just needs to say that they will be responsible for your financial support during your studies at Cornell.

Apparently Cornell waits the longest before sending out interview invites. Hope that eases the anxiety

Advice from forum...I have a low GMAT (below range) but everything else is strong. I really want Cornell but I haven't received an interview yet. Do I bother visiting to show interest? Given a r3 applicant got an interview request and I am yet to hear for r2, do I bother trying?

Ps I took the GMAT 4 times and still didn't do well

1. Last year, the invitation came in as late as Jan 22nd so I wouldn't discount the possibility of hearing from the adcom at the end of January. But FYI, a fair number of round 2 applicants have already received invitations.

2. As far as visiting Cornell, I think it should've happened before submitting your app. It's not like the adcom will slip in "oh, he/she visited today" note into your folder upon your visit. And most of all, unless you live in upstate NY, going to Ithaca especially in January is difficult. In my memory, greyhound from NYC to Ithaca took 6 hours, given that there is no breakdown.

Hi Ariel,

Had a quick question on the background checks. My company HR doesn't provide information on the employee and there is a WORK number that they have outsourced this function. A lot of companies actually use the WORK number. Is that sufficient to provide to KROLL?

Please advise.

I have a similar problem. Here in Brazil, some companies decide to hire some employees as an “independent consultant”. It’s a way to avoid the heavy Brazilian taxes. In practice, I had to open a company in my name and present every month an invoice referent to my services. I was hired directly by the director and I believe the HR has no historic about myself there. Does the Kroll understand situations like that? It’s very usual in Brazil.

I wouldn't worry about it. If Kroll has a question I'm sure they'll contact you to clarify or have the school contact you. You have proof of income, via invoices so it's not a big deal.
