So I was supposed to interview in Ithaca tomorrow morning but my flight was cancelled due to severe weather. Nothing flying into the entire Northeast/Midwest today. I called Cornell to reschedule my interview but nobody is answering me at admissions or at the main office. Have made several calls since they opened this morning.

Is it possible that they shut down school today? I know there was talk that Ross was closing down today due to weather...

anybody heard anything?

The following email was sent out from Special Conditions last night:
"Cornell University will close effective 2:00 AM Wednesday morning, February 2, 2011. The University is expected to reopen at 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 2, 2011, with classes beginning at 11:15. " University status applies fully to the Johnson School.

Some administrative personnel is probably at school right now, but I suspect many would be working from home (all K-12 schools in Ithaca are closed today), so expect delays as the school is severely understaffed due to inclement weather. The adcom obviously is aware that flights have been cancelled and no one would hold that against you. Just try yo get in touch as soon as you can and see what your options are. My guess is that they will either let you have a phone interview or reschedule if you would prefer to visit the campus. Best of luck and let us know what happens.

anyone here who can provide a sense of exactly where we are in the process? How many interview invites have gone out (%)? How many left (%)? Timeline? I dont think there is a mid-decision date, is there? I don't particularly like checking status everyday!!!

Not too many people at least here who have an invite.... so far...! wondering whats happening!

I'm seeking advice. Is it better to interview off-campus with an alumni or on-campus?

Ideally, I'd prefer off-campus due to less strict interviewing time constraints and my grueling work schedule, but if on-campus is more valued, I might consider that instead.

My impression is that Cornell does value the on-campus interview (perhaps more than many schools). Ithaca isn't a cosmopolitan metropolis, so they want to make sure people know what it's like and will enjoy their 2 years. I think this also is a function of where you're located. I met a guy from Philippines at Cornell who had been accepted follow an off campus interview and was visiting to decide which school to attend. Otoh, if you are in the NE US it might not reflect well if you don't make the trek.

My $0.02.

For Round 3 dudes/dudettes, I'm sorry to say but there will be more wait :P Receiving an invitation early is a double-edged sword: you will finish your interview early and guess what - your anxiety at least triples after the interview. There is nothing you can do really, but seeing the "Status: Complete" will make you relieved for 10 seconds and back to anxiety.

I'm just happy that round 2 will see some light next week, as the adcom seems to start calling people on Thursday before the decision date.

So that means Cornell keeps sending invites? From your R2 experience, do they do it in bursts or the invites trickle in daily?

Well... I ain't no adcom so not qualified to answer that :P

Last year's roll call included name and the invitation date. The invitations seemed to be lumped. For instance, for R2 last year, a large number of people got theirs on 12/22 - well, I got mine on 12/22 as well. Just like other schools, I think they do it in batches, and trickle out for the special ones.

The due date for R2 was 11/4, I think and I got mine on 12/22 - relatively fast so I had to wait about a month for the D-day. Given that R3's deadline was January, R3-ers still have many days to go. Thus, keep your mind busy with things elsewhere. I read Ross and Fuqua's threads - very fun to read as the level of paranoia is out of this world.

Just received an email with the subject "Financial Planning Information from Johnson Admissions"

"Thank you for submitting an application for the Johnson MBA program!

Most students make significant adjustments to their lifestyles to accommodate for educational costs and decreased personal income during the MBA experience. We ask students to take responsibility for covering educational costs and we are pleased to present you with information on how to prepare. Some of this information is specific to Johnson, but most of the tips are useful regardless of where you choose to pursue your MBA. "

I would much rather have received it after I find out if I have been accepted. Anyone else got the same email?
