Ummm.. if you are a regular routine Joe R2-er and haven't interviewed yet, you are WL or ding. I meant the decisions for those who interviewed.

2 things:

1) I recall reading somewhere that Johnson sends interview invites up to and including the decision notification date. So let's not drive anyone to drink just yet - I think people are generally on edge enough without being told they've been dinged 4 days before the decision date. If I'm mistaken in this, I apologize, but I still think we can be a bit nicer to people who are already nervous and have not been as lucky as those of us who have at least interviewed thus far.

2) I'm as anxious as everyone else to hear a decision, but when I interviewed a few weeks ago with a member of the AdCom, I was explicitly told that they probably wouldn't have the luxury of making early calls for round 2. Of course I'd love to have my phone ring tomorrow, but I thought I'd share so that people don't give up hope Friday night if this information proves to be correct. I take the Johnson folks at their word when they say that the order and timing of invites and decisions is not indicative of one's chances.

Have been lurking on the sidelines for a bit, but wanted to do my part for our collective calm. Ideally, we'll all be classmates in a few months, and these next few days will seem trivial in hindsight!

Good luck to all!

Hmmmm.. a few things.

No interview doesn't equal to ding. It means WL or ding. So hope is not lost. It just means more waiting and more ambiguity, which we dread the most. And interview doesn't mean admit. Actually, similar options apply - WL, ding, or admit. It just means more likely to be admitted sooner. So yes, I can be drinking as well.

Also, how can one receive an invitation on a decision notification date? If a R2-er gets one on 2/15, is he in R2 or R3? In other words, it doesn't make sense. I know for a fact that people with stats less stellar than mine got into HBS. But that doesn't mean that I should apply and expect an admit.

The app season began back in October last year. Most of us applied to R1 or ED for a few schools, and while some of us were really successful (I can name kevintay, bless his admit from Johnson and Tuck), some of us weren't, including myself. People feel edgy because of unpredictability of the outcome, NOT the nature of the outcome. I'm all for being nice. But at the same time we are all big boys and girls.

We know one client who was interviewed ON the decision date of R1 last year, and then got his acceptance within a week. So don't analyze the decision notification date too much.

Good luck!

I also interviewed a few days before the notification date last year. Agreed, those dates are more or less guidelines.

I have never heard such thing and I guarantee you you don't need 750 on the GMAT to get accepted, much less to interview - for any school for that matter. There are a lot of components to a good application package and a high GMAT score is just one of them.

Hello Ariel, can I ask about recommendation letter. From your insight, should the recommender be the Partner of the firm (consulting firm)? I have my Director writing the letter for me for all schools I apply to. I was not invited to interview for one school despite I believe I am a potential condidate. The only thing I can think of is my recommendation letter. I'm quite worried about my applicaiton to Cornell too. Thank you in advance for your response.
