1.) Is it the case that everyone who interviews but does not recieve admission get waitlisted? Or are they rejecting people as well?
They reject a few but from the sample size on this forum, they waitlist a lot more than they directly reject. Acceptance off the waitlist can't be more than 15% at most schools and I'm betting Cornell is the same.
I think you are assuming that the same proportion of people who get rejected report here as those who get waitlisted (I've been WL-ed also). I can think of at least three reasons this assumption might be wrong:
1) Rejects are likely to be less dedicated to the application process than WL-ers, thus they are less likely to participate on this forum
2) Rejects are less motivated (more upset) to make their results public
3) Rejects don't have much incentive to find out more about what implications their status carries (they're rejected - that's it; WL-ers at least stand some chance, so they want to find out more)
