So. Cornell is asking that if offered admission, can you provide documentation for liquid assets greater than the annual cost of attendance.
1. From perspective of getting a scholarship, should I say No?

2. Planning on taking out an education loan with maybe like 10,000 USD in savings account. Should I still say Yes?
I had similar thoughts xD. I think most people will be taking loans if admitted, unless they get full rides or major scholarships. That being said, I think the answer to your question is “yes.” It really just hints at your ability to secure a loan and demonstrate financial capacity.

These questions don’t affect scholarships, since those are merit-based at most schools. Cornell (like other U.S. programs) knows that the majority of international students rely on loans plus some personal funds. They don’t expect you to have the entire tuition sitting in cash right now. Typically, schools only require financial documentation after you accept admission, and that’s mainly for the I-20/visa process.

This is actually a very common question.

I think this has to do something with immigration rules or something stupid like that. I think this is to avoid people coming to the US without money and expecting to work to pay for tuition. This is a leftover question from the 80s.

For years years AdCom used to ask this question before you even applied so if you did not have the assets, you weren’t supposed to apply 😳

You can ignore this. The scholarships are as mentioned about your merit and not affluence.

And as mentioned this doesn’t include loans and other vehicles so technically everyone should be saying yes I’ll be able to pay for it with a combination of loans and savings and scholarships and whatever.

Quick question for you all: are you treating the ‘Goals and Interests’ prompt as basically another essay?
It’s interesting that Johnson separates it from the formal essay section, but it’s still 350 words max. Curious how everyone is approaching it?

Yea it’s pretty much another essay. Are you guys using any consultants or tools to get your essays reviewed?
Agree, I was just thrown off by it at first.
I didn’t use any consultants, pretty much I used friends, family and AI.

A friend of mine said he will use applicantlab, it is quite affordable

Would you recommend applicant lab or admit studio to someone who is halfway through writing their essays? Or is it better to go with them when one is starting out?

Interesting question, I would finish drafts and let SPAM review those. Apploclicantlab would offer you content guidance and strategy on how to tell your story. In both cases you still do the writing.
So I would say applicantlab is best when you start and SPAM when you have completed drafts

But would love to hear from someone who used either of those

I use both SPAM.com and applicantlab.com.

If you’re already halfway through your essays, I think SPAM is the better option if you want solid support without paying anything. The free plan includes school-specific guidance for essays, resumes, LORs, interview prep, and profile evaluations. For example, you can get detailed feedback/advice on Cornell’s essays completely free. ApplicantLab, on the other hand, is more about big-picture strategy. It has a huge library of resources that explain the overall application process, but the free version doesn’t cover school-specific advice.

My suggestion would be to start with SPAM’s free version, and if you feel like you need more support afterward, you can always upgrade to the paid version of SPAM or ApplicantLab. Honestly, since both are free to sign up and test, it’s worth trying out each one to see which works better for you.
Wow, thank you for taking the time to share this!

Quick Question - is it advisable to submit 2 LORs instead of 1 as we can submit upto 2?

Another good one. I would submit second LOR only if I knew it strengthens my profile. For example, if my first letter is from supervisor but then I got COO to right me a letter too.
But I am sure there are non traditional cases where it helps, like if you are entrepreneur or work in family business etc.

Hey guys, what are your thoughts on the question that Cornell is asking in background section :

“What other MBA programs have you or will you apply to?”

Abyone is putting all of the schools they are applying to?😂 clearly no one is going for just one school these days

I really don’t understand why they ask these questions. What is the point? They want to see if Johnson is a safety or a stretch? But should not they be able to tell?
