I just finished a day at Darden. I interviewed, took school tour, sat in on class and had lunch with several Darden 1st years and professors.
Interview: Standard Darden interview - "Tell me your story (30 min. monologue), Why MBA?, Why Darden?" It was conducted by a second year.
Class Visit: This was BY FAR the best class visit of the 6 schools I have visited. The class was on decision analysis and was VERY interactive and lively. I can see why Darden is ranked #1 out of all MBA programs for teaching/faculty. Personally I get much more out of the case method than the traditional professor lecture.
Campus Tour: Really impressive grounds/buildings. I particularly liked the fact that the Darden School/campus is ONLY MBA, which means there are no undergrad business majors there creating more traffic--they have their own business school on the main UVA campus. There are several buildings, open space, patio's/outdoor tables...best of all was the weather - Sunny and 70F!
Lunch: Q&A with First year students and professors sitting at our table. Very informal and open.
My summary: Darden's stock went WAY up for me on this trip. I don't want to put any other school down because they are all excellent choices, but Darden went above and beyond my expectations.
Now for the long wait until D-Day (3/24)...
