I heard someone gets the application package with the interview report and come up with the final decision.
What role does Darden's interview play in admission?
Does the interview hold a make-or-break-it kind of importance? Or is it just a part of the whole application?
I read through the thread and people with great profile and 750+gmat were not accepted after their interviews. I begin to wonder why.. what they've done to get a ding after interview, which they claim went great/okay.
The way the process was explained to me is two people read your paper application and recommend you for an interview. A third person conducts a blind interview and submits notes that become part of you file. Then, two more people read you application as a while and the decision is made.
So, no, the interview isn't make or break, but it does become part of you application and likely holds a fair amount of weight. That being said, just because two people approved your initial paper application and you did well on your interview, isn't a guarantee for admission, since two new people will be reading it. It's probably not likely given the amount of training AdCom members go through, but you could have an instance where the people reading your final application have a completely different view of your paper application than their peers, and the best interview in the world wouldn't have helped.
