It'll be interesting to see what they do with both brands. I don't know much about Tata, but I think they grew their business by producing an inexpensive car largely for the domestic Indian market. Luxury brands such as Jaguar and Landrover are a different breed. If they try to create inexpensive vehicles carrying the Jaguar or Landrover badge, they risk dilluting those brands.
Are Tata's vehicles know for their tech. innovation? Or did they buy the Landrover and Jaguar brands for their technology?
I like the design of the new Jaguars, I just think they suffer from the same quality/reliability issues, whether perceived or real, as does Landrover.
see, tatas have always been the business house that has given india what it lacked...power, steel, communication, u name it...when india did not produce its own vehicles, tatas started tata motors and came out with a range of vehicles from locomotives to trucks and buses (in colaboration with mercedes)...later they broke away from mercedes and diversified to passenger vehicles and came up with suvs, muvs, cars, sedans, etc...recently they launched the world's cheapest car...so in a way u can say tht now they own the cheapest car to the most expensive and iconic car....by the way, the are one of the world's top commercial vehicle manufacturers already...now they have turned their attention to passenger vehicles...
dont worry too much abt mixing the brands..they have independent business divisions for each segment to make sure the goals and visions of these segments dont mix with each other...so jaguar and landrover will be like a whole new independent company under the banner of tata motors... the tatas believe in the concept of sustainable businesses so they make sure that each vertical is responsible for its own profit and not pour in fund from other verticals....they've very good at tht and tht is the main reason for their success... (they call it the tata business excellence model by the way)...
oh, they didnt buy JLR for the technology..they bought it for the business and for the chance to be the world's leading passenger car company....to be a part of the big 5...and so on....
i think enuff of the tatas now...(or we're gonna be kicked out of the forum)....back to duke...hey adcom....look how crazy we are going...!! pls get the results out soon..!!
