Is it the usual practice that "thank you" letters are not answered? Is it reasonable to make any inferences from an unanswered letter?

Not getting a response is not indicative of your chance of getting in. If it helps, my interviewer did not reply to my "thank you" email.

As usual, threestripes is the fastest and most helpful person to respond.

Just had my interview here in SF. My estimate is that there were probably around 30-35 people who interviewed here today. Not sure how the odds here work, but I hope they accept more than 50%.

Just had my interview in Durham - nice super Saturday event with lots of perspectives. The interview was structured but my interviewer had a light tone, she asked her questions but did not have too many follow-ups.

- Resume
- why MBA/Duke
- how will you contribute to campus
- what makes a good leader
- example of difficult feedback you have received
- if you had the choice between a prestigious title (e.g., nobility) and 100 million dollars, which would you choose and why
- any questions for me

All in all was about 60 minutes.

I was asked about how would I spent my free time if it were not to relate to acquiring of knowledge. What naturally comes into mind is nature, books, church, etc etc. Wondering whether anyone ever had guts to say that they would have sex, talk on phone, chat in facebook or get completely drunk

The way I understand this question, it is a thinly veiled attempt at asking you what your real extracurricular activities are. They want to know what you are so passionate about that you end up wanting to do these things anyway even when you're not being paid to do them or you're not trying to pad your resume with volunteer activities.

I forgot that I was asked this question... but now that you've mentioned it, I remember how I answered it. At this point in my interview, I felt like I was acing my interview so I candidly answered this (inserting the names of organizations that I have worked with along the way) as if my interviewer and I were old friends.

- I told her that I would like to sleep in a little bit and wake up at around 9am, followed by taking a quick shower.
- And then I would go for my daily 5-mile run because nothing makes me feel productive more than finishing a good run. I mentioned some charity races in which I have participated in the last few months.
- After a long hot shower, I would go out to meet with my friends for lunch. I touched on how I prioritize keeping in touch with friends and family because they are my most important assets.
- In the afternoon, I would spend a couple of hours coaching a youth basketball team. I discussed my past experiences and how these have inspired me to be more active in the community through sports.
- After that, I would have dinner and go to a sporting event with some friends/family. Here I talked about my passion for sports, which is why my goals are what they are to begin with.
- Finally, I would go home and check how my fantasy teams did that night before going to bed. I used this to elaborate on how I enjoy healthy competition with my peers and how my passion for sports has many layers.
- And then I reminded her that this is what I would do on a normal day. If I had unlimited financial resources, I would be a voluntourist making a difference every single day. After all, nothing beats discovering the world while changing it.

I had my on-campus activities and interview.

Did anyone have a "questions-and-answers" interview?
The interviewer was friendly, but the interview itself was not very conversational, and he barely smiled and looked tired. What should I make of this?

From people I spoke with, it seemed half and half -- some people felt their interviews were very conversational, others were more Q&A. I think it just depends on the style of the interviewer; everyone was really friendly so I don't think you can read anything from it. At this point, all the interviews are done and we can't change anything we said or didn't say. All we can do is wait until March 20 and hope for the best.

Good luck everyone!!

My interview also felt half/half. The interviewer definitely had a list of question to ask, but there were conversational parts.
There was a current student who mentioned that his interview last year was straight Q&A, and he got an admit.

Now to wait until the 20th. All the best to everyone!

Well, threestripes, however charming as a person and eloquent as an interlocutor you might be, my bet is that you haven't read the following poetry by Yeats,

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams

For otherwise you would have realized that each sentence that you typed was hitting my hope of studying at Duke. You are a dream killer, to phrase like that. You can use this odd metaphor if the next time somebody asks you to speak how your friends would describe you.

You have provided a really strong answer. If my numbers and other stuff would pull me out of the gutter to which the interview has put me, and I would study at Duke, I definitely should learn more about professionally selling myself from you

No problem at all. Thank you very much for sharing of this experience. I felt very excited to learn how a good answer might sound, and why that question was asked.

I just wanted to entertain people who might have not answered some questions as they wished. And, which is also what you value and find in sports, I'm more than happy to see that I have strong peers and competitors as applicants, and, potentially, as students. I would rephrase the old proverb and say: tell me who is your competitor and I would tell who you are.

Was down there Thurs am - Sat am, spending most of Thurs and Fri at Fuqua. I had a great time, and was really impressed at how friendly everyone was - current students as well as applicants. My interview was similar to all the rest described here. Primarily conversational but clearly hitting a number of questions from a list. I think it went very well, but I guess the only way to know for sure is to wait and see. My time down there really reinforced my interest in Duke, so I'm hoping for positive news once they release acceptances.

Are they going to release the decisions on March 20? Do they ever release it earlier?
