Finally received some form of communication from Tuck:

"We have received your application for admission via The Consortium and we thank you for your interest in the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.

Your application is complete and is currently under review by the Admissions Committee. We will be in touch with more information about how to access your account information as we get closer to the decision date. All admission decisions will be handed down by March 19, 2010.

Please let us know if we may be of any further assistance to you."

I am a little bit confused. I thought that Consortium schools had to make final admissions decisions by the end of February???

got the same email. maybe march 19th is when we'll def'ly know both admissions and fellowship decisions. a couple of my schools explicitly noted feb 26th in their communications so hopefully tuck will also give us an update by then.

I am also worried. I contacted the school and asked. I was told that they are aware of the Consortium deadlines and that they will work closely with the Consortium to make sure that we are considered for the Fellowship opportunity. But no hard dates or guidance about when to expect a decision.

Hi,

I recently had phone interview with Tuck. (I initiated it.) I asked my interviewer when a decision would be made. She said where I ranked Tuck would determine when I would hear a decision. I was a bit surprised because I was under the impression that the schools make admission decisions (without knowing where you ranked them) and then, depending on whether you were accepted, use your ranking to determine whether you'd receive a fellowship.

Just sharing this because I received the same Tuck e-mail as some of you and wanted to see if I could clarify anything.

The schools do see your rankings unless they choose not to see it. So it's not unlikely that Tuck might prioritize their reviews/decisions based upon the ranking.

I know this information has already been posted on this thread somewhere, but does anyone else find this to be.......upsetting? I don't want to NOT get into a school just because I didn't rank them first or second! GAAAHHH! :(

This whole rankings thing, yeah, I don't know about that. However, not applying through the consortium hasn't been any better.

Hello,

I got the same email today, also I figured out for those applying to YALE that you can go onto the application website and login to see you application status. Yale never emailed me the link but when I Google Yale application status I found the link and logged in.

for a detailed explanation of the consortium's application process review https://www.cgsm.org/students/Application%20Instructions_FL2010%20%283%29.pdf

you shouldn't have any questions regarding rankings, deadlines, etc after reviewing this doc (specifically pp 2-3).

I also recently had my phone interview with Tuck and though I can't necessarily confirm the info above, the admissions director said I had to complete the interview before the EOD 2/15. I had originally wanted to do it on campus, but since I did not receive the interview invite until last Friday, it just wasn't possible. I ended up settling for a phone interview and scheduled a class visit separately for next week. The director also mentioned that this was a deadline imposed on them by the Consortium, so its possible they have to make decisions pretty soon which is why they're requiring applicants to finalize their interviews in such a short timeframe.

FYI - I took this from the Ross website

How are the Consortium rankings used by Ross?

The admissions process is blind to the rankings, and admissions committee members do not see the rankings while reading your application or conducting interviews. After admissions decisions have been made for R1 and R2, the committee uses the rankings in the fellowship award process.

Hey Y'all...I just was at USC Marshall today and I specifically asked the Dean of Admissions how our rankings play into admission decisions. He said they absolutely play no role whatsoever until fellowships are being awarded. Good luck to All Y'all....

Yup, I'm serious. I had my interview with a member of the admissions committee. I asked her when I should here back and she said depends on where I ranked them. She then asked me where I ranked the school but before I could answer, she said don't worry about it because she would check when we got off the phone. It was a wonderful conversational interview, but that last bit through me off.

they're supposed to say that.

I spoke with adcom's from two consortium schools that I had gotten really cool with and they both said it's not supposed to matter but they see it and keep it in the back of their minds when making decisions.

One even mentioned that if they see a lot of schools on your consortium app, the choice may be made to deny you and save the open spot (admissions offer) because you're so likely to get into your 2nd or 3rd choice.

in terms of fellowship:
Some schools have bigger ego's and have blatantly said, if they don't see you ranking them as #1 then they may still admit you and may give you some money but full fellowships are more likely to go to the student who demonstrates that they really want to be there, by giving the #1 ranking... i'd be surprised to find a consortium alum within the past 5 years who received a full fellowship from a school they ranked 4, 5 or 6.

So, I don't normally voice too much of an opinion on here, but since I am not too concerned about the rankings one way or the other, I thought I would throw in my 2 cents on the subject. I am in no way an expert, but the way I logically see this whole thing:

Say, for example, that you ranked Tuck 4th. You have a strong application, strong enough that they are willing to offer you a spot in their class. Overall, it is safe to say that Tuck is a really good school and doesn't just accept anyone, therefore it would be safe to assume at least 1 or 2 of the 3 schools you ranked ahead of Tuck also accept you. At this point, the only issue is the fellowship and if 2 of the 3 other schools accepted you, then the odds of Tuck getting the chance to offer the fellowship to you are pretty slim. So in reality, if that is the case, then there is really no reason to fast-track your application in order to meet the deadline.

Now say they HAD to get you an answer by the deadline, but didn't have the capacity to review your application. If they see that you ranked them 4th, then the easiest thing to do would be to waitlist you since the odds of getting you the fellowship are slim anyway, then you would leave them alone and they can focus on your application when they have the time.

I am not saying this is the case and I am not saying I agree with it. Like everyone else, I am trying to make sense of this whole process and this is the theory I came up with. The only way I would really be disappointed with this process (and perhaps wish I would have just applied to the schools directly) is if I ranked a school 1 or 2 and wasn't offered admission until after the fellowship deadline.

I heard from somewhere, can't remember where, that one of the more popular schools said that if you don't rank them 1st or 2nd then a fellowship won't be offered. I can't remember which one but I know it was one of the top schools.
