Was there any word during the chat on what's going on with Rd 1 applicants that were neither dinged, deferred, nor interviewed? A few of us are in limbo and I'm hoping that an interview is coming soon :|

We're in the same boat Wen. (Limbo, limbo, lim-BO!) Unfortunately doesn't seem easy to say either way because I'm assuming apps are reviewed in waves/iterations. Either they haven't fully reviewed us as part of one of the earlier waves or they are borderline on whether to extend a R1 interview and want to get a feel for the rest of the R1 applicant pool. The kneejerk reaction to borderline candidates might be to just defer them, but I assume they want to try and close out a large number of apps too, so R2 isn't complete pandemonium.

Looks like Santa might not bring an interview, so we'll have to count on the after-Christmas sales.

Ah that might make sense, though from looking at the discussion boards (from last year, as well) it seems as though interview invitations are released by region. It doesn't look as if anyone from the entire western half of the US (excluding California) has received an invitation yet, which inclines me to believe that the delay isn't so much due to the quality of our applications, but rather that the interview schedule hasn't been firmed up yet. Just my two cents!

I'm in Philly and have not received an update from Sloan. Therefore, I'm really not sure if the "geographic" argument is entirely applicable.

Maybe not, but has anyone received an interview invite in Philly? I don't know whether Philadelphia is a hub based on its proximity to DC and NYC :?

Perhaps the more relevant question is whether people in Philly or the West (Except for Cali) were rejected last week? If so, then the geographic argument is likely vacuous, and Sloan is keeping our apps for unknown reasons. Hopefully not getting a response thus far is a good thing. :-D

I'm from Philly and interviewed in NY last week - maybe they will invite you to MA? Hope it works out for you!

Perhaps, although I can't seem to remember if they asked a question about the location of interview. If they did, i probably put down cambridge.

I'm in NY and still waiting for a response, which means the delay is not due to geographic sorting of the applications (since I know some NY applicants have gotten rejected and others have received interviews). Perhaps the applications are reviewed in random lots, and we have another wave of 'dings' coming? I will try and reassure myself that the delay is because they don't know what to do with my application yet, after surviving a first cut...

I don't know what is the status of your apps. All I can say is that in the "deferral letter" the first line states: "The MIT Sloan MBA Admissions Committee has now completed its evaluation of Round I applications." so I don't know whether it is true... Maybe they know they want to interview you but don't know where yet (hub versus Cambridge).
I don't think more dings are coming out based on last year's thread... I am sure you will hear good news from them soon! Good luck!

A second ding would definitely be something new as previous years only had 1 ding date other than the final date. Last year, there were 3-5 people on the GC forum that did not receive an update on the first ding date. I believe most of them received interviews in late Dec and early Jan, although GC represents only a small fraction of the entire Sloan applicant pool. However, I believe all of those people were required to interview in cambridge, so the travel might be annoying for some. I guess we can only wait. I'm not sure if my background - PhD in Biochemistry with only 2 years WE - delayed the review of my application.

I am from No. Cali and still waiting to hear from Sloan. I dont know if PhD is a factor. I personally know 4-5 people with PhDs (including I) applying to Sloan in R1/R2 this year.

Has anyone from Colorado or the surrounding states heard anything at all? Don't suppose there are many of us, but I'd be surprised to be the only one on GC. How about anyone from the Pacific Northwest?

If you don't mind me asking, what area is your PhD?

Just a heads up: Folks who were scheduled to interview 12/21 (me) and 12/22 in DC were bumped to 1/4 & 1/5 due to the huge snowstorm over the weekend.
