Nink (and any other current students)- would you mind opining on Finance recruiting @ Yale? I'm worried about it, because the only Yale MBA that I know of at my firm (bulge bracket i-bank) is working in back office ops. That's the last place I ever want to be after graduating, so I'm just a little freaked out that it's even a possibility.

Seriously? You are freaking out because you've met one YSOM alum working in operations of BB?
How about my former GMAT instructor with a HBS degree working in regular finance dept of a beauty cosmetics company as a finance manager? (not to mention he or she is teaching GMAT students PT) Should that freak out all the HBS admits?
What about a posting that rhyme found last year in some internet help wanted section where a Kellogg alum was offering her services as a nanny?
How about a Booth alum I've met this year who works as a IT manager at a publishing company?
The jobs mentioned above might not be attractive to you, but they are quite happy doing what they do and they seem to be more than satisfied with their lives. And, you should understand NOW that not everyone with top MBA degrees end up at front office of BB or MC's or PE's or any of the other fancy post-MBA jobs.
People go to different places, because it is up to the individual, not the school that makes a person. You are going to soon find out that regardless of which bschool you end up with, after few rounds of interviews with competitive in-demand employers, they are gonna look past what's on your resume, which bschool you are from, what your work exp was etc etc. You are gonna soon see classmates with amazing credentials and flawless resumes, get dinged at top employers while that guy with less impressive background ending up at top summer internships.
Career switchers are gonna struggle compared to the rest of the applicant pool no matter what. This is true even at HBS. So instead of worrying about silly things like the stuff mentioned above, do what you can to improve your chances with your ideal future employer.
And if you are going to end up at YSOM, you are going to meet people with interests in many many fields. Some students truly want to save the world, while others just want to make more money. But we all respect what the other person wants in life. So if there is a person who dreams about working in the operations dept of a BB, well what we should be doing is to congratulate him or her on his or her success in achieving that goal.
Oh and btw, finance recruiting is fine at YSOM. There is a separate week just for consulting and finance interviews because it's a big week for everyone. And if you look at the list of all the major IB's campus visiting schedule, YSOM is on their schedule.
And the boutique bank that I am headed to this summer? They didn't visit YSOM but they have a history of hiring few YSOM grads every year for jobs and internships. (and no. I am not doing back office operations) All I had to do was ask the great people at YSOM Career Development Office for assistance and they knew how to get me an interview. CDO has the contact info of all the recruiters at top firms and they leverage the alums very well.
Did any waitlisters receive feedback from Bruce or anyone else? Although I'm pretty sure it's my quant scores, I still wrote asking for feedback for what I need to do to improve my application. Haven't heard back.
Can you comment on a typical schedule/workload for a first year student? I'm not planning on doing this, but does anyone work part time while enrolled? Just trying to get a sense for what the intensity of the program is like.
Thanks. By the way, first time poster - Accepted to Yale SOM in Round 2, but still deciding.

I am not aware of anyone from my class who is working PT during his or her MBA but it certainly is possible. I know a couple of people who runs their own business while they are in bschool.
Curriculum wise, there will be times where you will be overloaded with course work and there will be times when course load might be light. It depends on what you are taking and how well you are grasping new concepts. Cases and certain projects do take a lot of time but in general, it's not course work that will take big part of your day...it's recruiting stuff, club meetings, extra curricular activities, networking, and other social activities.
Is anyone going to Bulldog Days, two weekends from now? I just saw the form, and it asked if I want to be hosted by a current student. Are people doing that? I've been to New Haven so many times, but can't, for the life of me, remember if there are places to stay right by campus.
Also, am I the only one who is factoring pizza quality into his final school decision?
i did r3 because I didn't decide to apply to bs until about a month before the r3 deadline and still had to study for and take the gre ... I'm expecting a rejection soon as well ....
Received interview invite today. Plan on registering it as soon as I figure out when I can get a day off for work - but want to do it asap. Good luck to you guys on getting interviews. I am sure that they will go out over a few days/weeks like the other rounds so dont sweat it just a few hours after one invitation got extended.

congrats! i don't think my application is very strong......scratch that, i have an abysmal gpa.
No, I still haven't received my enrollment materials either. I was starting to wonder about that. I'm right in Boston to, so it shouldn't take that long for them to make it to me from New Haven...
For Bulldog days I was planning to wear dress pants and a dress shirt on Friday and sweatpants and a Nascar t-shirt on Saturday (just kidding). But from the schedule it does look like business casual on Friday and casual on Saturday Anyone know differently or how people dressed in previous years?

Pack some clothes for different outings. Dressy clothes are preferred for some planned events, while for other "fun" events, you can take a dark denim jean and wear dress shirt tucked out and etc. And yes, sweatpants are no-no's. :D
I was accepted to Cornell so I recently withdrew my Yale application before receiving a decision. Rather than send an impersonal email, I decided to call the admissions office. The person I spoke to was very kind. She asked why I was withdrawing my app and I told her 2 years vs. 1 year, family situation, etc. We had a really nice conversation. I was very sad to withdraw (not that I would have been accepted anyway). Classy school all the way. To everyone accepted by Yale good luck. The school is outstanding.
did any of the R2 admits receive the enrollment materials in mail?

I actually called the admissions office and asked. enrollment materials were mailed late last week (friday) so we should be receiving over the next couple of days.
