Really!!!?!?!?!? I am interested in education reform as well. Awesome!

I'm with you gals! I work in education now.... BusyBee, I'm conflicted for you. Part of me wants to tell you to go with your heart, the other part of me realizes you're not in for the potential salaries of some of our consulting/banking/marketing colleagues and maybe a great deal of debt isn't the best idea. But, I do believe that wherever you end up, you will be in good shape if you are proactive and diligent, and I suspect you will be. :)

Education Reform/Community development here. You should also look into some dual degree programs (MPP/MPA). Also I know some schools have loan forgiveness if you go into the public/non-profit sector.

It's great to see that more ppl are interested in education reform!!! That's awesome :-) We should definitely all keep in touch and collaborate on some projects/research in the future! To your point shandlc86, part of the reason why my heart is leaning towards Ross is b/c they offer a joint MPP or MEd program whereas Emory does not. Emory does have a graduate school of education, but when I spoke to the Assoc Dean, there seemed to be only one relevant class I could take in the school of Ed that would help me in my endeavors. Their graduate program seemed to be tailored for those who want to actually teach in the classroom

Thanks for the feedback prime, forumaddict, and victory. I think regardless of where I end up, it's going to be an uphill battle. I want to work in nonprofit/education reform. Ross had the better resources of the two, but even still I'm confident I can make it happen regardless of where I end up. It's a tough decision, I just hope I make the "right" one lol

Good luck to all other Ross admits & fellowship recipients!!! I hope the good news keeps on flowing :-)

Really!!!?!?!?!? I am interested in education reform as well. Awesome!
OMG, me three. Actually, I'm interested in applying to Edu Pioneers and then to become a Broad Resident!!!
Awesome, we should put our heads together on this. See you at the next case competition..;)

busybee, Ross has an education club, but the COE's strength is in higher education. So vis-a-vis Emory, I don't see a whole lot of difference. I think either will get you into Ed Pioneers. Check the Broad website and see how many Emory alums there are. You may be surprised.
I think the best place for EdReform/MBA is Stanford.

Also Check out the Building Excellent Schools Fellowship. You work a 12-month fellowship helping to found a charter school.

Busybee, I also just remembered (considering that you are concerned about student debt)...there is a law (see US department of Ed--fin aid) whereby if you take out direct govt loans, and you work in a non-profit or govt job for 10 years, you will have all of your direct loans completely forgiven or paid for.
If you are truly committed to working in a school district or non-profit, then you should understand how this law may effect you.

That is awesome! I was considering the Broad Residency as well. I'm definitely taking all my 5 courses that we are allowed to take outside of Stern at Steinhardt. I know absolutely nothing about education other than my viewpoint from the eyes of someone who went to public school all my life. I want to spend the next few years learning everything I can. I'm uber excited!

We MUST discuss these things at OP becuase this isn't the thread for it lol

Just curious....did anyone on this board or a friend of a friend receive a fellowship from UT? Asking because no one from last year's thread got one....just curious.

Posted from my mobile device

I went to the diversity weekend and met several 1st years who had a fellowship...Texas is just a little behind in their scholarship notification and scholarships are done via snail mail. (At least from what I know...)
