Good to see the enthusiasm for Yale on this site has continued.
Since there have been some interesting visitors this year (I imagine this happens every year) - I thought I would give you guys a couple of notes as you start visiting campus and interviewing -
first - Relax
The interview is pretty straight-forward. Just practice walking through your resume in three-five minutes. Do NOT read your resume when you get asked this question (walk me through your resume) and talk about what you were thinking when transitions happened. Try to finish in three to five minutes and practice. This is going to get asked. You should have a good concise answer prepared. Also prepare why bschool and why Yale SoM in three-four mins each. Ideally, walking through your resume should tie straight into why bschool and you should get through all three of these questions in 10mins approx. After that its a pretty straight-forward interview..
Prepare good questions to ask at the end. Gauge your audience - don't ask a student about the strategy of Yale SOM over the next five years and adcom about a typical day for a student.
If you go to a class visit - and you should go to a class based on recommendations from the students since they will steer you away from the more boring classes to classes that are more fun and interactive (every school has boring classes and fun ones so you may as well go to a fun one) - Do NOT answer questions or raise your hand no matter how well you know the topic. It is beyond inappropriate and will pretty much ensure a ding because either the prof or some student will let the office of admissions know that you don't know how to behave. Also even if the students around you are checking blackberries / phones - dont check yours. Its rude and while students shouldn't be doing it, there really is no consequence to them doing it. On the other hand you will come across as someone who is treating the visit as unimportant.
Same applies for your tour and when you are talking to students. We have had some applicants checking their phones in class and while meeting with club leaders etc. I am sure some of these guys had great interviews and applications but i would not be shocked if they get dinged. Don't be these people.
Just treat this like a job interview and behave like it. This isn't rocket science. Goodluck
