Question for the board,

To those with WLs, especially those with admits from other schools, are you guys actively trying to gain an admit (sending updates, keeping in touch with AdCom, school visits, etc.) even if you have another admit in hand? I ask because I have an admit to Cornell and Emory and think I stand a relatively good chance to get some money from Cornell, but I got WL'd by Stern which I ranked first but probably would've picked 2nd behind Cornell if you would've asked me a month after I submitted. I plan on sending an update to Stern over the wknd with some recent developments at work and otherwise even though I dont think I'll get any money from them and am pretty much out of the running for the cgsm fellowship at this point. If I get in I would still lean to Cornell over them due to cost of living and the possibility of funding among other factors, but I put a lot of work into my Stern app and do like the school and want to see it through to try to get in. Is anyone in a similar situation, or have any thoughts on this?

While I do agree with with gablaze and method, I think there's another way of looking at it. IF you were to withdraw your app from Stern, you could make a compelling case to Cornell that they are now your #1 by telling them you have withdrawn your application from Stern. This might UP the chances of them offering the fellowship because they feel the love. This would be risky if you only had one admit because then they would know you had no choice but to attend there, but in your case, you have another school that could offer you the fellowship, so there would still be some pressure.

gablaze, thanks for the kind words and best of luck on your interviews.

mixed, I see what you're saying, you have a good point. I have shown Cornell mad love though, even after getting the admit. I definitely let them know I want to be there, but just waiting for funding to shake out. Hopefully once scholarship weekend and draft day pass I wont be empty-handed

I just had my phone interview with UW Madison and the first question out of their mouth was "Why did you placed Wisconsin at number 6th??"....So guys, I think all schools know their rankings...she even knew all the other schools I had applied to. Overall I think the interview went well, we spent over an hour on the phone and we even talked about the consortium process and fellowship. I have to see what they will come up with.

Wow, that's crazy. I wouldn't think they'd be so blunt but I guess I can't blame em for asking. Schools definitely know the rankings, they're not even hiding it anymore.

So I was wondering...has anyone else who was interviewed by Cornell get waitlisted? Although I didn't believe in the rankings sensitivity, I can't help but think that they WL'd me because I ranked them 5/5 on my list...any thoughts?

Wow that's crazy! If nothing else, I'm glad this thread will be VERY helpful to next year's Consortium applicants when they are deciding how to rank b-schools. I know when I submitted my application back in November I was certainly under the impression that rankings would not affect admissions at any of the b-schools, obviously not the case.

That said, ranking them 6th does not mean you won't get in. I ranked Kelley 6th and I'm in with $$. But it's definitely something for future applicants to be aware of.

The question was a combination of why did you include UW Madison and why No.6. After I talked about how great the school is, I responded by saying that the consortium ranking is not the ultimate measure of how much you want to attend a school, the application process is a discovery process and you start finding more things about the school and as you start interviewing and attending information sessions, your perspective on certain schools change and so does your personal rankings by mid March.
She seemed satisfied with my answer.

THIS is my biggest fear. Being waitlisted at Yale isn't a big deal- I'm proud I even got an interview, but knowing that the remaining 3 schools know they weren't my first or second choice worries me. I wish the importance of rankigns would have been emphasized more.

McCombs acceptance yesterday follow by a Marshall acceptance today. Helluva good week! I'll be withdrawing my waitlist at Tepper and withdrawing my application from Haas later today to avoid recieving any negitive information. I'm trying to keep the good vibes flowing all the way through to Fellowship time.

Could I trouble you to explain this draft day? Aside from applying through the consortium is there anything extra we need to be doing to be considered for $$$??

Kheti, what are your other schools?

I am kind of on the same boat. The schools I ranked 2 and 3 dinged me (Yale and Cornell.) Rank 1 Dartmouth isn't looking so good since I never had a self-initiated interview. My interviews are with my rank 4 and 6 schools, Kelley and Darden respectively. I don't think Kelley is rank-conscious, but Darden could be.

What schools are you looking at now? Maybe those schools aren't rank-conscious.

I did Haas -1 and Yale- 2. Waitlisted at Yale and the best i can expect from Haas is also a waitlist, as i've heard nothing from them to date. My other Consortium schools are USC, UCLA and Emory. I really don't have a clue if they're rank conscious at all.

Wow, I was straight up dinged by USC with no interview. I'm shocked. I was hoping for at least an interview. I ranked them 3/3. Of all the schools I applied to, I thought this was my best chance.

Condolences to anyone else if this was also your fate today.

There's nothing extra we need to be doing at this point. We just have to sit back and wait for everything to play out.

I got the same email, denied without an interview. I ranked them 5/6.
Fortunately I got in on my #2 already, but I was expecting better luck.

I got the same email yesterday as well. Even though I was expecting it given I haven't heard anything from them since turning in my round 1 app, I was a little bummed to get rejected. I also thought I at least stood a good chance at an interview invite, but I didn't do nearly as good a job of forming relationships as I did with the other schools I applied to. Plus I ranked them 5/5 which I'm sure didnt help.
