Thank you menam, this is good information ...
I am an international student so if it gets as late as June anyway I cannot make it .. but I will give it my best shot and try to get the updates for adcom by April end. Thanks!
Hoping4best, Georgetown has a relatively low matriculation rate since it tends to be a back-up school for applicants to the top 10 programs. Therefore, your chances of getting off the waitlist are pretty good so long as you remain diligent.
I was actually waitlisted last year and was finally admitted at the end of June 09, but had to decline for personal reasons. That in mind, getting off the waitlist requires diligence. Few things to keep in mind:
- Keep the adcom updated on your activities
- Make a solid effort to address any shortcomings on your application (retake GMAT if that's weak, sign up for an evening accounting class if your GPA is low, if you're short on meaningful work experience try to get another recommendation from someone who might offer a different perspective like a professor, etc.)
- If it's your top choice, make that clear, because if a spot opens up they'll most turn to someone on the list who's ready and willing to go. Adcom members are piss tired by this point and will have much lower tolerance for indecision.
- Go on a school visit and meet some students. Let the adcom know you're coming, and they may be receptive to an interview.
- Especially for Georgetown, move quickly on all of this. They understand their position in the pantheon of MBA programs, so they often interview waitlist candidates early and on a speculative basis.
Hope that helps
