I checked this morning and my application is "Under Review" at HBS. That's less than 3 days after the submission deadline. Any idea what this means or has the status changed to "Under Review" for everyone?

Mine says that too. I guess it's just to signal our applications made it into the review process. Nothing major

Yep, this little blurb wasn't there as of last night:

"Your application is under review. MBA Admissions will contact you if we need further information. Please note that this field will not change again until the notification date."

How bad is this: two of my recommendations are two days late... and the third one is still not submitted yet.... AND... just as I'm reading my essays, missing one key word, and some (read "SOME") grammatical errors (due to last minute rush)...

I'm ready to hear the bad news already.... :(

Not sure if this helps, but the admissions Director in her Blog said the following:

"What if we don't have all your recommendations? We start reading applications if we have 2 recommendations. We'll contact you via email within a couple of weeks to let you know we need the 3rd. If we have only 1 or none, you will be moved into the next decision round."

I think there is some room for speculation in this statement...
- it could mean that you're fine as long as the two recommendations came in before they started reading your application,
- or it could mean that you're in R3 as they didn't have your recommendations by then.

JFK'S HARVARD COLLEGE APPLICATION PUBLISHED BY KENNEDY LIBRARY TODAY: EXCERPT FROM HIS ADMISSION ESSAY

"The reasons that I have for wanting to go to Harvard are several," he wrote. "I feel that Harvard can give me a better background and a better liberal education than any other university. I have always wanted to go there, as I have felt that it is not just another college, but is a university with something definite to offer. Then to[?], I would like to go to the same college as my father. To be a 'Harvard man' is an enviable distinction, and one that I sincerely hope I shall attain."

HMMMM? MAYBE HE HAD SOME OTHER QUALITIES.

Do you think there is any point in applying to HSW in third round. I am quite optimistic bout harvard, given the fact that Nitin N is reshuffling, as it seems, the admission process and also looking at the admission outcomes of rd 1, which you have pointed out to be a blood bath for certain traditional people for BS. Some people were also pointing out the DEE l, said "i wished you were working in coal mine", it seems dramatic enough to apply to rd 3 and be optimisitc. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I am not your traditional applicant.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Round 3 is always hard, for openers, and w.out knowing your stats and story, hard to specualate. In general, you are better off being a non-trad candidate in R3 than e.g. working in IB or MC or PE, but dont take that too far.

Nor should you take too far Dean Nohria statements or the 'bloodbath' for certain trad. peeps in R1, or Dee's coal mine (actually she said auto plant) allusions. . It may be true that HBS is reorienting its metrics to include more "old" economy companies, and newer MNCs like telcoms etc., and also prob. boosting the international and female stats a tad, but all those chances will take place in very small moves, e.g. 1 or 2 pct pts a year, or even less. E.g. Female enrollment might crank up 1 or 2 pct a year til it rivals Wharton (40pct), it is currently 36--that might happen over 2-3 years, but even if they boosted female admits 2pct per year, that "only" means ~40 more females out of total female app pool of several thousands!!!! HBS will stil REJECT a whole lotta females, many of them super qualified. Similarly, cutting back on IB/PE cohort might mean cutting back 1 or 2 pct, and they will still take PLENTY of IB/PE types, as they did in round 1.

Also, the more likely roadmap to this is encourage MORE FEMALES to apply, that is why Dee has formed gyno-commando units to perform special ops at places like Women's Schools and other places (nunneries???) e.g. current female students who will do road shows at colleges urging kids to apply or at companies. Sure, Dee could increase female or any other demo enrollment, w. the flick of a pen, but that is not the HBS way, the make a super big deal out of everything, and budget it, and then yak about it, then form teams, and have retreats and write interrum reports, blah, blah.

Hey, it's more fun than reading folders.

But anyway, don't expect any radical changes soon.

Next year's class is going to look a LOT LIKE last year's class.[color=#0000FF]

Everyone out here seem to have gone on a l'll vacation or something ?!! :)

Come on guys n gals .... lets keep the thread alive !! First week of Feb is just two weeks away!

The R1 interviews went out in 12-13 days .... whereas for R2, they seem to be taking almost a month.
Also, all that debate on the PE vs PC selection. Would the adcom have taken notice on the post-decision hue & cry & again reverted to the traditional high-PE selection for R2 again?
Sandy, do u feel that its possible? Or is it safe to assume that the Dean would take a second call on his methodology of class composition only after this class takes shape ... i.e for class of 2014?

Thoughts, anyone ?!?!

yea this thread has been dead for the last week or two, probably because there is nothing to post on, the deadline just passed and there are no status updates to the applications, it will be buzzing again in a few weeks when invites start going out!
