Oh really. I thought the timing of the email notification was odd. The event has been open for 3 weeks and they send it 1 week before.

I was also wondering if it serves the same purpose as Prospective Student's Day where they use that as an opportunity to get to know applicants some more.

I don't know anything about PSDs, but for the Friday Women's Event at HBS, there are no Ad Coms that attend. When I went, it was clear that an email went out to the entire HBS female student body to "come interact with prospective students" and they had no clue what they were doing there. There was no structure to the Q&A, no leader, etc. It was a bunch of clueless HBS students blinking at some clueless prospective students and it was a little awkward.

I know someone who interacted with adcom at a PSD event; then, applied R3 and got in...Sometimes adcom needs to put a face to the app and I dont think HBS is any different.

Then again, I interacted with adcom at a Stanford info session just after submitting my R1 and got dinged without an interview...I don't think I insulted her or did anything otherwise stupid, but I could be wrong.

Was it a special event or a regular info session? The special events are definitely 'recruiting' events. At Booth Live, you catch adcom looking at your name tag and face trying to take a mental picture.

Anyway, I'm sure it's not foolproof.

It was an on-campus info session mixed in after a class visit day, and I had a nametag on. Chatted with her for a good 5 mins or so after I'd asked a few questions during the session itself.

Definitely not foolproof, still individually-dependent.

I do not why i looked into my R2 submitted app again today, and noticed a BIG mistake - i filled the revenue of my current employer (from drop-down options) in millions instead of correct one in Billions. The magnitude of this mistake has still not sunk in

aah never should have looked at the application again

Imho, doesn't matter much - I don't think the adcom has the time or resources to research applicant's employers to see what their annual revenues were - they may do some legwork to see if such a company exists and whether you are/were an employee but that's the extent of it

From the HBS Admissions Dean's Blog

Round Two Interview Invitations
Date: January 26, 2011

We will be sending interview invitations to Round 2 candidates beginning on February 4 and continuing through February 16. On February 16 we will be sending some invitations to join the waitlist with the possibility of an interview invitation later and denial letters to all other Round 2 candidates whom we do not plan to interview.

Detailed instructions about the sign-up process for interviews will be included in the email invitation.

There is no system - or hidden message - to the order in which interview invitations are issued, i.e. no connection whatsoever to the strength of your candidacy, time at which you submitted your application, geography, industry, etc.

Don't worry about whether the invitation will reach you - if we see that you haven't scheduled your interview, we will find you - haven't lost anyone yet!

Eileen Chang will continue to send periodic updates to candidates on the Round 1 waitlist.

Thank you for your patience - as I've said before, we know this can be an anxious period and we will do our very best to keep everyone up-to-date. We won't have any more specific information than this if you call on the phone. You're welcome to call me at 617-496-6835, but I will just be saying out loud what I've written here.

And, most of all, thank you for applying to HBS.

i am worried that this mistake will affect my chance - i turned more than a billion in revenue to millions. should i write to adcom

Just thinking off the top of my head, you could call the AdCom relatively anonymously and ask for their advice. If they think it's worth clearing up, you can send an e-mail identifying yourself / your application.

(Although I don't think this one small thing will be the deciding factor in your admission).

Hello All,

Can anyone tell me if HBS requires summer prep courses to be taken for admits who never studied business? And if so, when do these courses start?

Also, I'm wondering what would be the last date possible for R2 interviews??

Thanks

Don't know about the classes, but according to Dee's latest blog post, interview invites will start on Feb 4 and run through Feb 16. By the 16th, everyone will either have an interview invite, a spot on the WL (with possibility for later interview), or a rejection.

I have heard that there are some courses that people need to take before Fall term starts. This makes sure that people are starting out are more or less at the same level. I think someone mentioned Basic Accounting is one of these courses. Maybe eskimoroll or Bubbawon or some one else who got into HBS can confirm.

The program is called Analytics or "Math Camp". Its for people with non finance/consulting jobs and no business background in school. Not exactly sure how long the program is, maybe a week or 2. I dont think they require it for anyone though, just highly suggested.

Thanks everyone,

So even if there are prep courses there are only a couple of weeks, nothing like summer term courses.

All admitted students have to take three online tutorials that take about 60 hours each to complete: accounting, finance, and quantitative analysis.

Some admits are required to attend Analytics, a one week boot camp that I hear is very intense, the week before classes start.

Of those, some are required to take classes in accounting, finance, statistics, etc. locally at a university before matriculating.
