I am totally with u guys on this. Whenever I have read Dee's posts or her messages, I have truly felt that she (and her staff) really does everything that she possibly can to de-stress the applicants ..... while having her hands full with the admission process at the same time.

Thats why I feel quite sad when I read some people, especially some admission consutants, who take a dig at her ! One cannot possible visualise the burden on her shoulders when she knows that her decisions will make a big impact on the lives of thousands of the brightest minds in the world !!!

So its Feb 4 to watch out for now !!!!!! :)

APPLY YOURSELF LINKS UP W. PLAGIARISM DETECTION COMPANY --RESULT: LESS INTERNET ADMISSION ESSAYS AND MORE WORK FOR CONSULTANTS.

New Partners in the Plagiarism-Detection Business

https://chronicle.com/blogs/headcount/new-partners-in-the-plagiarism-detection-business/27804?sid=pm&utm_source=pm&utm_medium=en

January 26, 2011, 12:00 pm

By Eric Hoover

On Wednesday, Hobsons, a marketing and technology company that serves colleges, and iParadigms, which provides plagiarism-detection services such as Turnitin.com, announced a new partnership that will allow colleges to bring “automated content authentication” into the admissions process.

. . . .Pennsylvania State University’s M.B.A. program was among the first to sign up for Turnitin for Admissions.

In one study Turnitin for Admissions reviewed 450,000 personal statements and found that 36 percent contained a significant amount of matching text (more than 10 percent). Those matches tended to come from Web sites offering “sample” personal statements. Other tests have found questionable similarities among 8 to 20 percent of applications.

Kind of shocking that a service like that was not already being employed.

Hey Everyone,

Here is my profile for the HBS 2+2 Program. Historically, I know that 2+2 has targeted non-business majors, and my whole background is business related. So, I was curious about thoughts on the forum. Do I stand a chance 1) I am coming from A&M, and 2) because my background is all finance related.

School: Texas A&M
Major: Finance and Accounting
Year: Junior
GPA: 3.92
Work Experience: Interned at Goldman Sachs (Special Situations Group, Hedge Fund), PricewaterhouseCoopers (Transactions Services), Barclays Capital (Energy IB)
GMAT: 720
Nationality: White
Extracurricular: Assistant Director of 100 member service organization on campus, Raised 6,000 for High School Service Conference held on campus, Travel Coordinator and Director for Investment Banking Club, Liason between bulge bracket banks and students searching for investment banking opportunities.

Let me know what you think about my chances at 2+2.

Thanks.

Most of us here "stand a chance" but that's up to Harvard to decide. Plus, we haven't looked at your essays~

I went to a women's Friday event last spring and I was disappointed with the calibre of the session. The hosts showed up 20 minutes late, it was unorganized, and everyone reiterated general themes about HBS that everyone knows. Plus, the attendees asked really general questions that anyone familiar with the application process would already know the answers to. Also, there wasn't anything women-centric about the session. I would recommend going to the general info session and doing a tour and lunch with students. The lunch was 100x more valuable and intimate. Skip the women's session.

Oh really. I thought the timing of the email notification was odd. The event has been open for 3 weeks and they send it 1 week before.

I was also wondering if it serves the same purpose as Prospective Student's Day where they use that as an opportunity to get to know applicants some more.
