HEY GMAT CLUB FOUNDERS!!!!!!
GET BEHIND THIS IDEA--PRONTO.
WHO ON THIS FORUM WOULD NOT PAY $7 TO READ A STANFORD SET OF ESSAYS.
New start-up buys Stanford personal statements
Thursday, February 24th, 2011 | By Marianne LeVine
Stanford students looking for an extra buck or two can now earn cash by uploading their personal statements to the Essay Exchange. The new website says it aims to give disadvantaged high school students access to a cheap alternative to college counseling, but University officials are skeptical.

Started last August by three Harvard Business School alumni, the Essay Exchange pays $2 to current and former students at 25 elite universities every time a prospective applicant reads their admission essay.

Has anyone heard anything about the "Unofficial HBS Interview Guide"? It was featured on fortune dot com yesterday (I can't post the link yet, sorry!)

I was thinking of buying it since $35 seems really reasonable, but would love feedback if anyone has already purchased it.

Thanks!

I'm planning on downloading it later today--I'll let you know what I think of it. I'm thinking Harbus wouldn't publish something of shabby quality.

Please recommend a font size/ type you have used in your MBA resume... especially if you have got an interview invite? Also, Just wondering if a project description should be put up for consulting projects or is it a waste of space? Any guru to the rescue on this one?

I'm working my way through it now and it's definitely worth the $35. It contains good general advice for HBS and interviews in general, along with pretty much every type of question you could possibly be subjected to. $35 is a pretty small price to pay to prevent blowing an interview because you were completely stumped by an interview question.

I used Times New Roman, 12pt for my name up top and 11pt for everything else. I kept margins at 0.9" all the way around because interviewers like to have some white space for making notes, and because small margins make a resume look too cramped.

Absolutely, unless you're applying for an EMBA and you've got 10+ years of WE.

Anything more than a page is just going to bore the adcom or make them want to throw it out. A resume is supposed to distill everything about you down to the basics and encourage someone to want to get to know you better, not feel like they already know every single detail about what you've done.

Comic Sans or Papyrus. Y'know, to make it stand out. Throw some clip art in there too.

Actually, here's a killer template:

Question for those who interviewed: did you write a thank you note to your interviewer? If so, how did you get the contact info?

The Harbus interview guide says that a thank you note is pretty much essential if you want your interviewer to have a positive impression of you. Email is ok but handwritten shows extra attention on your part. Ask for a business card before you leave if your interviewer doesn't offer you one when you first sit down--all three of my other interviewers so far have given me cards right away, so I'm expecting my HBS interviewer to do the same.

My interviewer didn't hand me a business card - so I couldn't send a thank you note. Hopefully it will be fine in any case. I completely forgot to to ask for a business card as my previous interviews for other schools have been with alumni and I already had their details, so didn't even think about it. I guess time will tell...

I've sent a thank you note to the off-campus interviewers for other programs, but that's been easy because I've had their info ahead of time.

they were instructed not to give out business cards. you had to go to the reception to ask for your interviewer's contact information and even then they give you a card with a generic email. I didn't see the point sending a thank you note to a generic email. A lot of other interviewers have said they didn't send a thank you note.

on the other hand, i am wondering what i am going to do with myself for the next 1 month. I wish I scheduled my interview later so there is less time to wait before the decision. I am going crazy replaying 30minutes in my head; scrutinizing every little thing I said. Ugh.

Hmm, that's odd. They probably got tired of applicants repeatedly hassling them for "insider" information leading up to the notification date. I just rechecked the Harbus interview guide and it's pretty emphatic in saying you should write a thank you note.

Good preparation Emont, it's the last weekend before your big day!
Best of luck for your interview, and look forward to hearing from you on next Monday!
