Hi guys,

I'm losing faith as well. Any thoughts on re-applying? Is it even worth it?

I'll be 30 next month - too late for me...

Welcome to the 30 Club. Concentrate on Wharton, Booth, LSE, CBS - S/ HBS are notorious to turn down applicants with "too much WE". I am not planning on reapplying to HBS - b-school is as much about your network as it is about the knowledge. With strict, pre-planned curriculum, less flexibility and classmates who are on average 5 years younger, HBS won't be a good fit for me next year. Just a personal opinion.

Good luck to those who is still waiting and congrats to the ones admitted!

Hi all, I am an international applicant and received an invitation yesterday.

Any idea about the relative strengths of the different "waves"? Are the 2nd wave people those who received another look and might be considered weaker, or is everyone on the same level at this point?

Congrats! I hope I'll have the same luck next week :)

You shouldn't be worried, the admission director explained that the second and third waves are just files that have been reviewed later, it is not related to the strength of the candidacy.

Anyone applying to a concurrent degree with Harvard Kennedy School got an invite?

I applied for a joint-degree with HKS and HBS. In short, no, I have not received an invite from HBS.

I don't know, but I'm hanging onto a glimmer of hope, a hope that HBS will wait until later to send invites to those concurrent/joint degree applicants after all other invites are sent. Heard from HKS and AdCom asked me whether I want to be considered for MPA given my background; I did not apply for MPA. Also, HKS said my application is still under review (even after more than two months after the application deadline). Perhaps two schools are now talking with one another to determine the fate of each joint/concurrent degree applicants delaying the review process for these group of individuals?

Again, I'm just hoping.

Chalk me up as another MBA/MPP candidate who hasn't received an invite. Unfortunately, I've heard quite a few stories about people getting accepted to HKS but not HBS, so I'm not sure that they collaborate that much in the decision making process, but who knows. Also, I don't think we are supposed to hear back from HKS until March - talk about a long wait.

I applied for the MPA-ID at HKS, and I visited the program director just 2 weeks ago and asked her a few questions. Based on her answers I can say for sure that schools DON'T talk to each other at all... They have independent decision making process. However, I understand that HBS has a preset number of places for candidates on joint degree programs. So getting to HBS might be harder for those who apply to a joint degree because there are more applicants per place than in the "regular" competition. Regardless, I also hope that HBS is just leaving these complex applicants for the final week, because there are more aspects to analyze in their case...

In any case, in just a few days it will be clear. Did you apply only to HKS/HBS combination? Or you applied to HKS in combination with other schools as well? I applied to Sloan in R1 and they accepted me, on the interview they told me that even if I don't get into HKS or if I change my mind in the meantime and choose to go only to sloan, the admission decision will not be canceled. As far as I understand, if HKS accepts you it works the same way. You can still go to any of the schools that accept you, even if the other one denies you, or if you change your mind after getting admitted to both school.

Good luck next wee, and pls keep us posted!!!

OK, so a wrote a Huge post that disappeared for some reason. I will try re-write it again.

Unlike you guys I apply to mpa-id/mba program. Two weeks ago I was in Boston for the Sloan interview, and decided to visit the Kennedy School as well (just to let them know about my interest :)))) I spoke with the MPA-ID program director and she told me that the schools don't talk to each other AT ALL about the admitted candidates. In fact the schools couldn't care less about each other's decisions... Unfortunately I also know for a fact HBS has a pre-set number of places for dual degree applicants :((. And since historically there are always more dual degree applicants per one available place in HBS than for regular applicants it means that our odds of getting an invite are much much smaller than for any other applicant on the boards.

However, I also know that if you got admitted to one of the schoold you can still go there regardless the decision issued by the other school. In fact even even if you try to make a combination with other B-school (MIT, Wharton, Stanford) you can still choose to go to any of them, even if you got denied at HKS. Or, for instance, if you changed your mind in the meantime you can still pick one of the schools (the B-school or the HKS) without that affecting the acceptance issued earlier. When I was at the Sloan interview, the adcom member running the interview told me that I can still choose to pursue only Sloan, regardless my decision at HKS.

So guys, the moral of the sorry is that you can go to any of the two that admits you. Even if you get denied at HBS, and get accepted at HKS you can still apply to an MBA program (except HBS though...) during your 1st semester at Kennedy. In fact I heard that the students who choose that path have more chances of getting admitted than other MBA applicants.

And also, don't forget that any student who applied to a concurrent/double degree requires more attention and analysis. Maybe the HBS decided t leave these "complex" candidates for the last week? We still stand a chance to get an invite...

Dam, that was a long post!

Good luck to every one! As long as one invite is pending, we still have a tiny little chance to get in :)

so is there no waitlist for R2 applicants

Someone else will have to respond whether anyone who did not receive an invite has a shot at the waitlist. My guess is no.

In R1, at least, there were both WLers with and without interview.

In fact, some of those in the second group actually got invited last Tuesday.

So what was the difference in status between the first and the second groups when they released interview decisions in R1?

something is really weird, if you check the stats on beatthegmat, 67 people were interviewed int eh first round, while just 30 were invited in the second round...
Yeah, is everyone really sure that only a few invites go out on Tuesday before the game is over?
It seems like only a fraction of the Rd 2 has been invited, and still plenty more will get in

On this board 34% of round1 people were invited to interview.
But only 9% of round 2 applicants have been invited
And HBS 2+2 is 27% vs. 0%

Just by those numbers alone I would say less than half of the invites have gone out, giving up hope now seems like the wrong attitude.

Even if rd 1 applicants have 50% more acceptances and interviews than round 2 applicants (like everyone says), still logically we would expect an additional 20 invites to go out just to the round 2 kids on GMAT club. Right?

All things are possible. However, I wouldn't put money on any calculations made by utilizing the population of this board (or beat the gmat, or so on). Not only are they biased samples, but you also have no indication of time - all of those people who reported R1 interviews may have done so after decision day and R2 may follow that pattern (i.e. everything's gone out but people haven't reported it).

Don't get hyped up about tomorrow. Go in with a bit of cynicism and the worst that'll happen is a few pangs of regret. Convince yourself half the invites are left to go (which may even be true) and you'll most likely be disappointed.

You're right, slice it any way you want, 12% acceptance rate is still only 12% acceptance rate, even Russian roulette has better odds.

However I think your chances of getting an invite now are the same as the day you clicked "submit", just don't beat yourself up if you don't get an invite, we knew all along how slim the chances were.

(I guess if anyone wants to try another HBS 119 stunt you might could find out today and put your curiosity to rest :D
