This just in:

Quote:
Round 1 Interview Invitations
Date: October 24, 2011
OK...this is the week we start sending interview invitations. Here's the plan:

We're going to send out invitations on the next 3 Wednesdays - October 26, November 2 and November 9. NOT on any day in between. Many will go out on October 26, some will go out on November 2 and 9. On November 9, everyone who applied in Round 1 will hear something - either an invitation to interview, an invitation to join the waitlist with the possibility of an interview in Round 2, or a "release." ...

Kudos to Dee for this. HBS has made tremendous progress in improving their process over the last 3 years. I dare think forums like GC might have helped, since we make the candidate side of the process more visible to Admissions officers, but I give Dee full credit for acting upon the things she sees as problematic.

If you would like to hear me read this message out loud to you, you're welcome to call me at 617-496-6835. Seriously, we're deeply appreciative that you want to come to HBS and know that waiting is difficult and the anxiety can be high.

I called that number, wanting to hear Her Majesty actually read this aloud, and expecting a recorded messgage. Always thrilling to hear her voice. You actually get her answering machine, and I expect she may be keeping track of idiots like me who actually call. Sooooo, advice is, DONT CALL.

HBS INTERVIEW QUESTION WORTH HAVING AN ANSWER FOR:

What do you think of Occupy Wall St.???? any suggestions?

Not bathing for a few days certainly doesn't improve their job prospects. This just makes things worse: https://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2011/10 ... /?mod=e2fb
Can you imagine an OWS protester applying to BSchool this year? That'd be a fun interview to watch/conduct.
SERIOUSLY--that is a dangerous answer to give in an actual HBS interview, no matter what your actual feelings. The "P.C." and correct answer is similar to ones given by Obama, and other dems etc. I understand their 'pain' etc. at job losses, dislocation, and fin. insecurity, esp. kids w. big student loans, etc. They expect you to give a balanced and structured answer to Q like that, altho you are free to finish up w. your own opinion, e.g. maybe not effective but here is what is driving it.

True, they've made a huge improvement over the years but I still fail to understand if they can send majority of the invites on Oct 26, then why not all? Also, why isn't there any clarification on which invites come first and which later?

That was a joke, not an attempt at answering, but your point is important. When answering always think how your answer would sound if you were in front of 90 people in a section, instead of an Admissions person. I suspect that is how they are seeing it.

I suspect there are always candidates that are subject to discussion before being offered an interview. They might also delay invites so they can have enough interview spots - a bandwidth problem, that has nothing to do with the candidates (other than their location). I can imagine they might hold off on sending invites to australia until they have an interviewer there, etc. I'm sure there can never be enough clarification from our perspective (down to questions as specific as "why can't I check my status as it progresses", etc.. there will always be more questions). However, compared to Stanford, Wharton, and other programs, HBS seems to be far ahead of the game this year, in terms of clarity.

Poets and Quants story about 'new' HBS interview sched.
So-called expert (ahem, me) quoted in story raps knuckles of S and W for not being this clear + calls Wharton habit of sending out 25 pct (or more) of invites in final days of its window akin to slacker writing a term paper.

Starting to get nervous.

I don't think I'll get an invite, specially since I made some form filling mistakes, but oh well. Still nice to be in the waiting game for HBS. It is already kind of an honor.

HAHA, and worth noting this as well.

Wealth Inequality: A Harvard Take
Harvard Magazine
In surveys of wealth-inequality perceptions and preferences conducted by Harvard Business School (HBS) associate professor Michael Norton, respondents always estimate that wealth is more equally distributed in the United States than is actually the case ...

so 9:45 AM pacific time wednesday...?? :|

From last year's thread, it seemed like it was 11:35 eastern.

I haven't felt this anxious in years. I don't know how I'll be able to go to work on Wednesday.

I wonder how I'm supposed to get any sleep tonight. With a fight with my boyfriend and this deadline looming. Geez, should be a fun night and day tomorrow.

To all the Indians applying - what a coincidence, HBS results coinciding with Diwali night :-) Hope we get good news as we celebrate Diwali. I am sure I'll be glued to my computer :-)
