Yes, of course. My resume shows all my positions and dates in my company so it's pretty clear that I have worked there since 2008, still... I mean, silly mistake which will probably make them look down on me =[

I'm so sad because everything else, specially my essays, are really good. They are actually my favorite batch of essays of the schools I'm applying. But, I made 2 silly errors on the work experience section =[

IDK, I checked my application.. In the work section, they ask you for the start and end dates and in the pdf, it automatically gets calculated into number of months of job ex you'd have till Sept 2012.. In which part did they ask you type the number of months?

Months of Work Experience
Calculate total months of anticipated work experience as of September 1, 2012. Fill in each of the following three boxes as accurately as possible (enter 0 if applicable).

Full-Time Work Experience Since College
Number of months (college seniors may likely enter 0 here)

How did I NOT read months??? Seriously??

Honestly not sure how much they will really hold it against you... when I went back and reread my Columbia essays... I had some stupid little errors in there (including some grammar ones) and I was still admitted... I think that if the point is still across... we are humans who make mistakes and with your resume there to show it.. probably not that serious.

You can always contact them to clarify. It's worth a shot. In any case, If they look at the apps as thoroughly as they say they do, then they should be able to pick that up quickly. I don't think they are looking to nitpick on the apps.

Yea I think a big misconception here is that everyone thinks that the admission committee sits there and thinks of any way to ding a candidate that they can... the reality of the situation is that they want solid candidates and a diverse class that they will be able to place in their post-mba fields. All being said, if two applicants have equal credentials then maybe something that trivial will be the deciding factor... but those odds are fairly slim

Oh, yeah its that small box at the top..

But in the fields below the box, you would've mentioned the start and end dates.. So I guess they'll take a clue from there.. And if they're not certain, probably call you up as well..

According to me, this error alone wouldn't cost you your interview berth. I mean, we're humans, and small mistakes such as this so creep up. And that box is so small probably you missed it while reviewing your application.

But if you're still don't want to leave it at that probably you should speak to some current students to ascertain whether you should call the admissions office to notify..

Honestly I wouldn't freak out about it. They're evaluating your whole profile. I've spoken to HBS alums and they all agree it's your voice and story that's the deciding factor as to whether or not to admit you. Some of these alums claimed to have used improper sentence structures, had typos in their data sheets, etc. Of course you should avoid these errors as much as you can, but it won't be a dealbreaker.

In general I think people worry too much about small things - move on and be careful next time. The only exception to this is junior level investment banking - they do hold it against you for one missing period!

Ok, so I'm surprisingly super calm waiting for next week.

However, today I decided to go over my PDF application and guess what? I found another mistake on the work experience section. Geez. Instead of 'months of work experience' I put 'years'. So it basically says I have 3 months of work experience when I meant years...

With that said, now I am pretty much 100% sure they won't invite me to an interview.

It sucks because HBS was the first deadline so I feel like all the silly mistakes were made on that app - my top choice. *sigh*

Have you put job dates on your resume? Like worked at xxx corp from xx.xx.xxxx to xx.xx.xxxx

You are fine, its not like they only look at the question of how many months of work experience you have before deciding to look at your resume and make sense of it. Keep thinking that you wont get an interview and certainly you wont get one... dont jinx yourself into rejection. I am sure this little typo does not affect your chances at all.

By the way I wanted to share with you guys some stats I found from the class of 1996... look at GMAT

Yeah, I mean, if they are going to ding me over something as small maybe HBS is not the place for me I guess.

I'm a marketing person going onto product management so def. not the 'common' applicant. Let's see.

NOBEL PRIZE ADVICE FOR YOUR HBS INTERVIEW

1. GO FOR PAR, NOT A BIRDIE
2. SCHEDULE IT RIGHT AFTER LUNCH

A recent article in the New York Times summarizes some research from Nobel Prize winning economists Kahneman and Tversky about so-called 'rational behavior' and findings might be helpful to those facing an HBS interview.

I am less sure about the timing (after lunch) issue, but their work supports my advice about the interview, that you should focus on not blowing it, rather than trying to score a birdie (by bragging, taking risks, etc. ).
Who You Are

https://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/21/opini ... ml?_r=1&hp
By DAVID BROOKS
Kahneman and Tversky . . . proved that people rely on unconscious biases and rules of thumb to navigate the world, for good and ill. Many of these biases have become famous: priming, framing, loss-aversion.

Kahneman reports on some delightful recent illustrations from other researchers.

1. Pro golfers putt more accurately from all distances when putting for par than when putting for birdie because they fear the bogie more than they desire the birdie.
2. Israeli parole boards grant parole to about 35 percent of the prisoners they see, except when they hear a case in the hour just after mealtime. In those cases, they grant parole 65 percent of the time.

Hi guys,

I was curious about whether HBS has excahnge programs? When I try to search that by this key words on hbs.edu, the web page troubleshoots.
am I right assuming that HBS does not have any exchange program with any other MBA program?

thanks

Quote:
Round 1 Interview Invitations
Date: October 24, 2011
OK...this is the week we start sending interview invitations. Here's the plan:

We're going to send out invitations on the next 3 Wednesdays - October 26, November 2 and November 9. NOT on any day in between. Many will go out on October 26, some will go out on November 2 and 9. On November 9, everyone who applied in Round 1 will hear something - either an invitation to interview, an invitation to join the waitlist with the possibility of an interview in Round 2, or a "release."

We will be managing the availability of interview slots so that candidates invited on November 2 and 9 have location options. While our availability in hub cities is limited, we always have capacity in Boston and via Skype. There is no advantage to one location/type of interview over another.

I hope you understand that we really cannot give precise numbers of interview invitations going out on specific dates - we just don't know. I also hope that the above schedule alleviates the day-to-day anxiety - believe me, we are trying to be as helpful as we can during this process. If you would like to hear me read this message out loud to you, you're welcome to call me at 617-496-6835. Seriously, we're deeply appreciative that you want to come to HBS and know that waiting is difficult and the anxiety can be high.

My sincerest respects for HBS. I think that the way of organizing interviews and sending them out shows a lot of respect for applicants to Harvard, it is a sign of humility and sincere symphathy for our mixed emotions throughout this process. Now we know that we only have to fear wednesdays instead of every single day.

Good luck everyone!

Agreed. Dee has done an excellent job of keeping applicants in the loop throughout. Does anyone know if HBS will send you an email with an interview invite or if you have to log on to ApplyYourself to find out?

Let's hope Wednesday brings good news to us all!

I agree, I've been very impressed with the communication from HBS. A few simple explanations have saved a huge amount of stress for the thousands of applicants anxiously waiting.
