I assume you know the below from the HBS website which says they kinda like a 109 or better on TOEFL --if the rest of your app is strong, they will overlook it and make an independent view at interview. But, you should
1. address this issue in Part 1 of App, where they give you 500 characters to explain anything--make sure you note prior score of 112, I mean the test is a bit subjective.
2. Have recommenders note how good your English is, and in what contexts you speak it.
3. Make sure app is super literate, in terms of usage etc. Does not need to be formal, but it does need to read like your English is fluent and correct at once. That will help-- and it is good advice for everyone anyway.
4. you can get a bit cute, if you want to use Q4 answer : I WISH YOU HAD ASKED ME HOW GOOD MY ENGLISH IS--and instead of bragging, just highlight emotionally fraught or complex work situations full of nuance, where you able to work in English, and duh, quote a bit of what you said. The idea here would be actually to highlight some interesting situations, e.g. broke up w. girlfriend in English, resolved billing dispute w. client in English, can curse very well in English and many other languages, etc. They will get the idea.
This is not a dealbreaker if rest of app is strong. Esp. given prior score.

Sandy,
I got a low toefl score, 105 (two years ago i got 112).
Any advice on how to handle this with HBS? Do you think dealing with a low toefl score is like dealing with a low GPA, "doable"? or is it an automatic ding for me????
I dont have time to retake it, i didnt think that toefl would be an issue for me, my english is really good and I really think that if they interview me they could easily notice that the 22 in speaking doesnt reflect my real english level. I got a 750 in the GMAT (41 V, 50 Q). I got a strong application in my opinion, and i really really dont wanna wait another year ( i am currently 27), however, if i dont give HBS a good shot I will always wonder whether I could have made it at HBS.
I graduated first of my class at Uni, became manager at a big 4 with 2 years of experience (advisory, actuarial services), 5 languages including arabic, currently living in Latam (received the nationality in here) and I am originally from Bethlehem where i graduated from High School (yes, Bethlehem as in the xmas carols).
Any advice, do you think my chances are really low now, or maybe they might give me a shot and check my english level at an interview??
thanks a lot
