Did any R1 submitters get an email confirmation? I know they sent out "woohoo you're round 1" emails last year, but I haven't gotten anything (even though my app, transcript, and recs all show up as submitted before the deadline).

Here is what I got from HBS almost immediately after I hit the submit button: "You did it! You're now a Round 1 HBS applicant for the class entering in the fall of 2015..."

It looks as though there was an ~11% drop on gmat club R1 HBS applicants from last year to this year (if I'm reading that correctly). Obviously there could be a number of factors involved in that decrease, but I wonder to what extent it may be attributable to the earlier R1 application deadline or (less likely?) an overall drop in applications. If there were fewer R1 applications, I wonder how that might affect the process (take fewer early and defer more applicants to R2 to see what the R2 numbers are? etc.)

Clearly just pure mental gymnastics on our part, but I'd be curious to know haha

Do they usually publish stats after each round? I'm now curious to know too :-D

Maybe applicants haven't updated their GMAT Club profile yet?

In her recent blog update, Harvard Business School‘s director of admissions and financial aid Dee Leopold explained exactly what MBA hopefuls who submitted their applications last week for Round 1 can expect over the next two months.

Candidates invited to interview will receive an email invitation on either October 8th or October 15th with detailed instructions about the sign-up procedure. Applicants who are not invited to interview will be notified of their release on October 15th.

Leopold expects 100-150 Round 1 applicants to fall under the category of “further consideration,” aka the waitlist. These candidates will either be reviewed and invited to interview during Round 2, or released on the R2 timetable, she explains.

Harvard Business School will conduct Round 1 interviews between October 20–November 21 on campus and at various locations around the globe. These off-sight locations are: New York City, Palo Alto, London, Paris, Shanghai, Tokyo, Dubai, Mumbai, Sao Paulo, and Santiago, Chile. Candidates who are unable to travel may be accommodated via Skype, the director assures.

The Round 2 deadline at HBS is January 5, 2015. If you’d like a little extra guidance on how to approach the optional essay question, read our Harvard Business School MBA essay tips for an array of possible strategies.

There was a lot of speculation about this issue last year as well. The key was that many people don't update their profiles until later in the cycle. Similarly, many people will delete schools from their profiles if they don't get invited to interview or if they get denied. Basically, just know that it's not super accurate to compare stats across years.

This may look like spam, but I reached out and they were able to set me up for a conversation with a current Harvard student. The guy I spoke with was incredibly helpful and MentMo covered the cost... If you haven't done this yet, do it. There is literally no reason not to.

8 days until the first batch of interviews are released. I would have already pulled out all of my hair if I didn't have other apps to complete in the last 3 weeks since the HBS deadline. This doesn't bode well for my blood pressure over the next two and a half months.

What's worst is that if you don't get an invite on October 8th, you'll still be stressed, possibly more than before, waiting for the second batch on October 15th. Only good news comes out October 8th. Good and bad news comes out the 15th.

Speaking of interview invitations, based on previous years, is there any difference, in probability of being accepted, based on what day you receive your interview invitation? Are the applicants that find out on October 8th more likely to be accepted than those that receive the interview invite on the 15th?

BML,

I think, HBS is usually overwhelmed with the number of applications they get each year and I feel they break down applications into batches to better manage the application evaluation process. These batches could be based on location, scores, etc. I don't know. Personally, I do not think that one could have an advantage of being offered an interview a week before a few others.

But hey, I am no admissions officer or admissions consultant. I am just another modern day plebeian assuming things and being optimistic about the process.

Short answer is no. However, you are right about finding out news on the 8th vs the 15th. I remember reading earlier that ~75% of interview invites are sent out on the 8th, so chances are if you didn't hear anything on the 8th, you are on the road to dingdom.

On a whole separate note, you a fan of Zoe Saldana?
