True, but I think a couple of the people on that thread that DID get interviews on the second date also got accepted in the end :)

I'll need a lot of this optimism if I don't get an invite on Wednesday. HBS is a major stretch school for me, but I still want it!!!

I believe that everything happens for a reason, so if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen, and time to get ready for Round 2! ButI'm trying to stay positive. Fingers crossed, we get good news on Wednesday!!

Same here. Regardless of what happens I'm glad I applied as I would definitely have been kicking my self if I didn't at least try. Good luck everyone!

That's correct. Most people last year reported that they received their decisions around noon eastern time.

------- EDIT -------

According to last years thread, there were about 800 interviews offered in the first wave (which will be Oct 8th) and about 100 in the second wave (which will be Oct 15th).

I believe the website says that it's supposed to be released at noon EST.

Based on conversations with the HBS admissions folks, there seems to be a major push for redistributing "control" back to the applicants for at least portions of the application process. The thought is that so many things in this process are already so out of our controls that the notifications, at least, should be delivered at a specific time and place, so we can choose to be where we want to be, and with the people we want to be with as we receive invitations (or ... a not-so-favorable letter). And I cannot help but be grateful for that, haha.

thanks for the info!

In any case, I am seeing several nervous applicants here! I feel super zen about it - as I gave my absolute best in the application process, and I'm sure you did too. If it's a ding, I'll accept it very calmly and move on. No regrets! It's been a great experience so far.

NandoParrado,

I haven't applied to HBS yet. Still contemplating whether I am HBS material and whether it really is worth investing those 250 dollars on my application. And I completely agree with you. Once we give in our 100% I don't think we have anything to worry about. If things have to happen they happen. Even if we fail, we get to learn so much about ourselves in the reflection process that we wouldn't have otherwise.

Dee just updated her blog! 800 invitations tomorrow and 150 on October 15. 200 Waitlist too. That's 1,150 spots. The most ominous sentence though: "The buzz around Dillon House these past few weeks has been: Wow, this is a strong group - really strong." :(

FROM HBS Admissions Blog: For Round 1 Applicants - News about Interview Invitations
Here's what our plan is for tomorrow, October 8:

At 12:00 noon ET, we will send interview invitations via email to roughly 800 Round 1 applicants. The email will contain detailed instructions on the scheduling process.

On October 15, we will extend about 150 additional invitations. On that date we will also notify another group of applicants that we wish to further consider their applications in Round 2. Again, the email will provide information about the timetable and communication plan for this group. We anticipate that there will be ~200 applicants in this group.

Please don't speculate about the difference between receiving the interview invitation on October 8 vs. the 15th. It's not about you. It's about us and how we set internal deadlines for applications to be read.

Important: 2+2 candidates will be invited to interview in the October 15 wave. There will be no news for 2+2ers on October 8.

October 15 is also the date on which we will release candidates who are not moving forward in our process. We hope that by doing this early, we are enabling this group to pursue other options sooner vs. later.

And now, a request: Please don't send any additional materials or letters of support. We've designed an evaluation process that we believe is as thorough and fair as we can make it. It's not perfect, but it certainly is a process to which we dedicate a tremendous amount of care and concern.

Finally, I don’t think I've said this yet: Thank you to all Round 1 applicants. You met quite an early deadline! The buzz around Dillon House these past few weeks has been: Wow, this is a strong group - really strong. We're impressed and pleased and proud that HBS is the place you'd like to be. The vast majority of you are very well-qualified to be students and these decisions are tough. We're doing it the old-fashioned way - one application at a time - and wish we could say yes to so many more.

Back to work.

Lets assume about 10,000 people are applying this year in 3 rounds! lets assume 500 more applicants from last year to account for application growth and for easier calculations. 4500 in R1, 4800 in R2, and 700 in R3.

If 1150 people are being considered in R1, this basically means roughly 1 in every 4 applicants is being considered for a spot at the school. WOW!!

and I could be completely wrong here, historically significantly more people have applied in R2 than R1, so the number of people applying in R1 could be as low as 4000 or even 3800. The odds are in favor of you R1 guys.

Good luck for tomorrow guys!!!

Hopefully it's a lot less since the deadline was so early.

I'd argue it's much less. If I were to guess, HBS R1 applicants this past month barely topped 3,000. The problem is the application pool was potentially the strongest of all the rounds (can be deduced from Dee's words and WL bump from 100-150 to 200). Only the most motivated applicants would submit the application that early.
