Can someone explain to me how an earlier deadline reduces applications? I've seen this reasoning often, but can't quite see the correlation. Not that I am complaining Personally, my backoff to start an application is the same regardless of the due date. If an application is due a month earlier, I am starting everything a month earlier. Is this not the case for most applicants?

Maybe it squeezes last minute GMAT people. If they signed up for a August GMAT back in May, thinking they had two more months afterwards to do the app, they'd be super stressed out in june/july finding out that nearly every school pushed up their deadlines. They could be so stressed at the end that they push to R2 to submit their best work. I imagine this would affect the Kellogg R1 pool more than HBS though since Kellogg announced so late whereas HBS was first or nearly first. Also, HBS tends to be a #1 choice moreso than Kellogg. I think we all collectively just hope that 1000 people were deterred from an earlier deadline haha.

Anyone also applying to Sloan R1? I'm wondering how I can work it where (IF I get invitations from both Sloan and HBS) I can make a single trip to Boston in order to interview. I would really hate to have to do two separate trips so close together - realistically I would try to do a remote interview for one of them in that case. Does anyone have any insight in to this? I am also grappling with the same issue with Berkeley and Stanford (again BIG IF I get invited).
