I have got rejection in R2 after interview. Should I reapply in R3?Also if I reapply in R3, will it have any impact next year if I get rejection in R3 again and apply next year? I am a CA with 4.5 years of experience.
smnrht hope this finds you well. I recently helped a CA to get an admit in PGPX R2, and I have done a few ding analysis discussions with other CAs post R1 that provided me insights into what works for CAs broadly. First, your experience of 4.5 years is slightly less than preferred at IIM A. You may have been in leadership roles that could help compensate for the low experience aspect, but that would require further discussion. You should also look at schools that fit better with your age and experience.
Second, IIM A looks for (very) strong leadership experience. Applicants, especially CAs who have been in hands-on roles rather than individual contributors and occasional participants in advisory projects, have better odds of being successful. Applicants who present seemingly dry experiences, lacking much character in the essays about the nature of work CAs perform, tend to receive a weaker response during the interviews as well. You might not even be asked much about your experience in an IIM A PGPX interview, so you cannot afford to overlook the essays to get your point across.
Third, have a solid strategy for your goals. This cannot be emphasized enough. Ideally, there should be a story behind your goals. Most CAs possess the theoretical knowledge required to advance in their careers even without an MBA. The rationale for pursuing the PGPX program must go beyond seeking the next promotion or a salary increase. What large-scale problem are you aiming to address, based on your projects and experiences? Alternatively, have you identified a supply gap or an opportunity in the market and do you wish to develop a business model catering specifically to that?
