Hey RockoGmat,
A GMAT FE 645 is within range for INSEAD, but how competitive it is really depends on the rest of the profile, such as academic consistency, international exposure, career progression, leadership impact, and how clearly the post-MBA goals are articulated.
For the R3 deadline on January 20, it is possible to put together a solid application only if most elements are already in place. This includes a clear career story, recommenders who can move quickly, and essays that are close to final. R3 at INSEAD tends to be more competitive, especially for candidates who do not have a strongly differentiated profile.
Applying in March for the R1 deadline of the Jan 2027 intake is generally the safer and more strategic option for most applicants. It gives you time to strengthen the application holistically, potentially retake the GMAT if needed, and refine leadership examples and essays without rushing. INSEAD usually rewards well thought-out and cohesive applications over last-minute submissions.
