Where art thou!

With just 5 says left for the Round 2 deadline, you are bound to have many questions regarding the various facets of your application.
What to include in optional essay, what to write in the reapplicant essay. How to write the job responsibilities. How to go about with the LORs. Are my essays up to the mark etc.

Please find below the details of the session to clarify all your questions.
Make sure you attend the session and present an application that is as strong as you are.

I have a couple of questions:

Have there been any disciplinary proceedings initiated against you at your work place at any point of time (whether the result has been delivered or pending)

What constitutes a 'disciplinary proceeding'?

Please indicate your preference of campus

Would it be considered arrogant to prefer the Hyd campus if I'm actually not biased? Okay, only a slight bias but no good reason to give to the adcom.

For your second question - I think anything that you put in your application should be backed up by a strong reason. Never take it lightly. Sure it might not hurt your chances, sure they might not even ask you about it, but if they happen to ask you about the bias and you fail to convince them then you are essentially giving them a reason to doubt. And don't believe if anyone says that preference doesn't really matter, because if it really didn't matter then they wouldn't have put that in the application at first place.

1.) Termination of employment, written reprimands etc given to you when you do some really serious lafda like stealing company money, harassing girls.. Usually no one has these.

2.) Your preference does not matter. They'll still put u where they want.

Actually, since they gave the preference option in the application, we have every right to specify a location. They will still disregard it and sort profiles into Hyderabad and Mohali in 5:2 ratio based on backgrounds and goals. If they get confused where to put a person after considering everything else, then the preference would come into picture. And my gut feeling is that they put you in the other campus based on your preference - Hyd rakha toh Mohali, Mohali rakha to Hyd :P

Thanks. I have another question - I was given a condonation in one subject during my BE. So the marks shown generally would correspond to a failure, except that my performance in other subjects was good, hence I received 9 grace marks and the condonation. Should I take the trouble to explain the reason for my poor performance in that subject using the optional essay?

You have a great GMAT score, which takes care of your quant and verbal skills, what you need in an MBA. I would say just ignore the explanation. You can use that space instead to talk about your strengths and the positives about you.

kRR15h's Awesome guide to writing Awesome essays

ISB Admissions Committee
Innovation or doing things differently it is said is a key to future success. Could you substantiate or negate this idea based on your experience. Please provide examples from your own experience – either examples of your own innovation or examples of others whom you have worked with

Applying to and enrolling in a Business School is an important career decision. Critically look at your career to date, the choices you have made, the key influences behind those choices, your goals for the future and how you expect to benefit from the ISB experience in achieving your goals.
    Innovation
Try to frame this as a narrative - a story. Don't write it like your school essays.
You have only 300 words. So don't define Innovation. Don't tell me why Innovation is great. I already know. Tell me what you did.
One of the best ways to tackle this is to explain how you solved some problem in your organization. Be sure to explain the problem first and then explain how you solved it.
Avoid jargon at all costs. No one knows what "Lean", "Code Baseline", "Agile Programming" mean.
With so few words, stick to one very specific point in time and talk about that. You can't write your entire autobiography here.
Explain everything in as much detail as you can.
Here is a mantra for you - "Short and Sweet" don't say "At the same time" use "simultaneously" instead.
Check your articles - a, an, the
    Goals Essay
For goals essay tell us your short term goals, how they will lead to your medium term goals and how those will help you achieve your long term goals.
Make sure you tell us the delta in this essay. Where are you now? And what do you need to achieve your short term goals (this is the delta). How can ISB help you eliminate the delta?
Don't tell me a list of subjects you're going to learn. You can learn these subjects while studying in IIPM also. Talk about skills.
Be sure to link your past experiences to your future goals - this can always be done. Be innovative!
About the third and fourth (optional) essays
Don't write the optional essay unless you spent a year in goa selling pot. Seriously. The optional essay is there to address any serious deficiency in your application that might make the ad-com dump it immediately. Don't use it to tell them how driven, ambitious and sexy you are.
I won't talk about the third essay because there are too many options. Use your creativity for this one, with two solid essays, you can afford to be a little adventurous in your third essay.

The most important thing though... is to WRITE something. Anything. Write whatever comes to your mind and apply these rules to it. Then rewrite it again. Four days is more than enough to write a very good essay, so you guys still have time.

Kudos button is to the left side...

I would disagree a bit to this. The learning which you would have at ISB cannot be compared to that at IIPM. So you can write the subjects and say that you want to learn them by so and so teacher at ISB. This shows your focus and research.

You missed the sarcasm :P

Anyway specifying a particular subject or a particular professor is OK, but saying "At ISB I'll study Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Strategy, Operations Management and these will help me become a leader in consulting industry"... now that was what I was talking about!

Yes but what makes you lean towards learning the subject from ISB and not from IIPM? what makes someone think that ISB would be better at the subject than IIPM (unless he's studied both the subject by their respective faculties)? wouldn't that be blind confidence?

I have two things for this:

1. This is the blind confidence that makes you to apply to ISB and not to IIPM
2. This is the difference in the faculty:

I have a doubt regarding essay 1. How many minimum number of examples of innovative/out-of-the-box-thinking should we really mention ?
