I think there can’t be a definite answer to this rather than a specific as every year there applicants with a low average score but a very good profile who cracks the ISB interview. Overall, if you have a decent GMAT score let’s us above 680-700+, chances of getting an admission will still be dependent on your profile and how well you do in the interview.

So far as an admissions consulting, I only have seen the opposite happen. People with terrible communication skills both written and verbal (trust me on this) have made it into top schools- including ISB. The holistic review takes into consideration the quality of work than the company itself- explains why all the top admits are not from Big 4 and MBBs but rather a mix of entrepreneurs, small businesses and other MNCs
So it is a lot dependent on how you sell your work experience and life experiences. But the GMAT score is more like a pool based cutoff factor (allegedly- but you can always cross check and find my results more to the higher majority side). The people who make it into top schools with low GMAT scores are very rare- in a class of 900+, you’ll find 5. You do the math
