Hi guys. Good morning and happy new year.
I was looking for an advice from the consultants or the experienced people here. I got dinged at isb in R1
My acads are 10- 88.5, 12- 67.8, Grad - 82.5, gre 332
So, I was thinking that class 12 score can be one of the reason for the ding, and although the gre was decent, it was unable to cover it up
So, I was planning to prep for GMAT focus now and planning to write it by March April and target for a 750-770 equivalent score
So I wanted to know if you think it’s a good idea to do this or you feel score can’t be the reason and it’s something else
P.S: I know trying for a better score always helps, but preparing for GMAT from scratch is demanding both physically and financially, hence trying to gauge how much it’ll help
Isbasp123 Hope you are doing great.
332 on GRE is a very impressive score. Don't be consumed with minor aspects that you miss the forest for the trees, failing to address the core issues at hand.
Since you mentioned somewhere you have 2.5 years of experience, you should first understand that you were among the borderline eligible candidates at ISB. The business school cohorts are created in a bell curve of some sort and naturally, the selection rate for folks with less experience and those with too much experience is quite low. I have had success with getting admit for applicants with just 2 years of experience at the time of PGP application, so I can say with experience that for someone with only 2 years of experience, you should try to showcase how you are different from other similar applicants (similar in age and experience) given your early promotions, thorough industry insights (pick a focus area and go deep into it), project management and crisis management exposure and mature overall outlook. The gaps could have either been in in your essays or your interview. Likely you could not convince the adcom that you are at the right stage in your career for a 1-year PGP that is typically meant for more experienced and mature professionals.
If you would like to evaluate your interview experience in hindsight, you may read this-
How to ace the PGP interview discussion I would say take the official feedback from official POCs with a pinch of salt and read into the feedback by discussing with someone who has experience with admissions process. I say this because as a reapplicant you will have to show growth in more than just the gap area they pinpoint, so better to be wise about it from the get-go.
Happy to advise further.
Best wishes
