Were you invited for the interview last year arihantbengani16?

Lesser experience last year could have been an issue. Also, I don't get a sense of your career-goals.

1. Tier -1 law firm (articleship -3 year, post qualification -5 months)

2. EY - 2 years 3 months

3. Listed cement manufacturing company - 2 years
Do note that ISB does not consider articleship as experience. So, you would have approximately 5 years of experience by March next year. This is in the sweet spot of ISB.

Target a 675+ on GMAT Tirthrajshandilya. I have been observing over the past few years that ISB is getting quite competitive for CAs.

Need a profile evaluation:

I am a software engineer working at Citi Group Pune (on-campus intern, then PPO for FTE, Full time since 15th July 2024). I have completed my B.Tech in 2024 from Delhi Technological University in ECE with a CGPA of 8.33/10.

Recently gave GMAT FE: 695 (Q88 V82 D84)

10th Boards' percentage: 96.6%
12th Boards' percentage: 96.4%

I was in the Powerlifting team of my college, and won a few medals as well.
I was the class representative in my 3rd year of college.

I have played district-level cricket in school. I have been academically inclined since childhood, and have been in the top 3 ever since I was a kid.

I have done an internship at the PETRONAS Group (Amplus Solar) for 3 months as a Data Analyst during my B.Tech 2nd Year.

Waiting for 2 years of work experience completion on 15th July 2026, to apply for ISB in their 2027 PGP program. I need to work on my application and essay till then. I need some suggestions.

Thanks

I don't get any sense of your experience, your quantum of experience, your nature of experience, and your post-MBA goals.

But guess what, none of that is needed in your case. Following alone is (more than) sufficient @dasariM:).

I thought a software engineer was a red flag for MBA admissions.
Most definitely not a red flag! Your nature of work, your contributions at work, and your professional trajectory at work, each has the potential to become your differentiator.

Asking since I'm BITS Pilani CS, and I had assumed that this wasn't anything worthwhile.
If you are under the impression that a candidate's undergrad college does not matter, that's just simply not correct.

All the best!

Their YLP program seems full until the 2027 batch; last I checked, it was taking applications for the 2028 admits. I could be wrong.

Now, with a GMAT Focus Edition score of 645 which is equivalent to 690-700 in the previous format and your demonstrated leadership in public service and consulting, you do have a compelling story for top international business schools especially those that appreciate non-traditional and impact-oriented profiles. Schools are increasingly looking for applicants who can bring a global perspective, cross-sector fluency, and a purpose-driven career path. You check those boxes.
MBA Program Suggestions
Since you're targeting roles in strategy consulting or impact/ESG, and looking at international locations like the UK, USA, Singapore, and Middle East, here are some MBA programs to consider balancing competitiveness, cost, and fit:

United Kingdom
  • Oxford Saïd = Strong in social impact, policy, ESG. High recruiter presence in MBB and Dalberg-type firms.
  • Cambridge Judge = Great for consulting and ESG; strong Middle East placements.
  • Imperial College Business School = More affordable, and increasingly respected in ESG and tech consulting.
Europe (1-year programs)
  • IESE (Spain) = Known for its ethics-driven consulting prep and strong global reach.
  • HEC Paris = Strong consulting pipelines to BCG/Deloitte in Europe/Middle East.
  • ESADE = Very ESG- and sustainability-focused, with excellent access to global consulting firms.
USA (some with scholarships/impact lean)
  • Yale SOM = Your background is a great fit here, especially with their mission-driven approach and ESG strength.
  • Duke Fuqua / UNC Kenan-Flagler = Both have strong ties to consulting and a culture that values social impact.
  • Georgetown McDonough = Strong in policy and global business; often overlooked but great for development professionals.
Asia/Singapore/Middle East
  • NUS and NTU (Singapore) = Affordable and very strong consulting placements in Asia.
  • INSEAD (Singapore/France) = If you can consider a retake and push your score to 665+, this is one of the best for short-term consulting transitions and global mobility.
  • HKUST / CEIBS (China) = If you are open to Asia more broadly, these schools offer good consulting ROI.
What You Should Focus On Next
  1. Application Strategy: Given your lower-than-average GMAT for M7 schools, your essays, resume, and recommendations need to work extra hard to communicate your vision, leadership, and impact. Schools will love your story if told well.
  2. Scholarships and ROI: European and Asian schools offer shorter programs with better ROI, and your public sector/development background may help you qualify for merit or impact scholarships.
  3. Retake (Optional but Strategic): If you can bump up to 665+ in a retake with just 20-point difference, INSEAD, Oxford, and even some M7 schools open up more fully. But your current score is workable for many great programs.
At Admit Scholar, we work with a limited number of applicants every year, many of whom come from purpose-driven, multi-sector careers just like yours. Our consultants are alumni from INSEAD, Harvard, LBS, and more and we take pride in offering personalized, high-touch support without pushing people into cookie-cutter narratives. Given your vision and potential, we'd be happy to explore how to strategically position you for a powerful MBA application season.

First off, underlining what you already know: You have good academics, an above average GMAT score, and decent extracurriculars.

It is great you have the foresight to build your profile with one year in hand.

Here are a few tips.

1. Let’s add more depth to your application through a well-rounded strategy. For example, can you involve your passion in powerlifting and cricket in your current life? Perhaps start powerlifting again and participate in competitions along the way. Perhaps volunteer to start a cricket team at Citi? Or identify an NGO for children and devote some hours each week to train children in sports? Basically, delve deep into your passions, align them with your current lifestyle and bandwidth and commit to something out of the box that comes naturally to you.

2. Invest in beyond-usual responsibilities at work. Be proactive to initiate any project that in some way helps with skill-building aligned with your post-MBA goals.

3. Maintain a journal to note important or interesting professional developments on a weekly/fortnightly basis. This diary will go a long way when you are finally at the brainstorming stage and in building insightful essays with rich anecdotes.

4. Take up certification courses that align with your goals.

5. If you are planning to apply to European programs in addition to ISB, perhaps start skill-building in a language of your choice. A basic certification here will also help.

6. Maintain good relations with everyone. Don’t let an impulsive moment damage team rapport that might eventually impact the LOR process.

Please feel free to DM should you seek clarification or more guidance. All the best!

Profile evaluation request

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out to get your feedback on my profile as I prepare to apply for the ISB PGP. I’d really appreciate it if you could share any suggestions—especially regarding an ideal GMAT score and the strengths/weakness that could strengthen my application.

Educational Background
• Class X (ICSE): 94%
• Class XII (ISC): 92%
• B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, NIT Durgapur – 8.61 CGPA / 81.10%
• CFA Level I cleared

Initiatives and Extracurriculars
• Co-organizer, TEDxNITDurgapur 2021
• Led organization of annual college fests; managed a team of 50+ members
• Multiple accolades in debates and Model United Nations
• Spearheaded a year-long team-building program at ZS Associates, engaging 150+ colleagues through targeted initiatives

I held multiple PORs during my undergrad

Social Impact
• Volunteered in ZS-led community programs, supporting education needs of 100+ children

Professional Experience
• Previously worked as an Associate Consultant at ZS Associates for 2 years 11 months (worked closely with Fortune 500 Companies)
• Joined FanCode last month
• Total Work Experience: 3 years (as of July 2025)

Post-MBA Goal
My long-term goal is to contribute to the innovation and growth of startups and small-scale businesses by working as a strategic partner and investor—similar to the role played by venture capitalists. I hope to combine strategic thinking, operational expertise, and capital to help early-stage businesses scale effectively.

Key Questions -
1) What should be target GMAT FE score?
2) What could be some factors that could hurt my profile?
3) Any specific application strategy I can use or refer to

Thanks in advance
