Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate it if someone could review my profile and share suggestions. I scored 8.0 CGPA in 10th, 75% in 12th, and 5.86 CGPA in B.Tech. I have a little over 3 years of experience in data analytics—currently working as a Consultant at a global research firm. Prior to this, I was a Senior Analyst, focused on data projects and performance analysis. I haven’t started preparing for the GMAT yet but plan to take it next year if all goes well. Given this background, what kind of GMAT score should I aim for?
Scores aren’t great. Also, your role as consultant is more around secondary research or is it more client facing? What’s your post MBA goals? Any extracurriculars that are a standout? There isn’t enough information in your note to do an objective assessment. But at a very high level, GMAT target score should definitely be on the higher end, 695-705+. We’d be happy to discuss more with you at Preppie (https://www.preppie.in)

Decent profile Avantika. Curious about few things:

i) If you are really interested in social impact consulting space, why did you switch to management consulting (from Sattva)?

ii) You do not mention anything on the GMAT front. It is important, you know.

1) While working at a social impact consulting firm, I realized that I wanted to gain more front-end management consulting experience. This is because many professionals in the social impact space come from traditional management consulting backgrounds, bringing with them strong strategic and operational expertise. I recognized a gap in my own experience in this area and want to build that foundation first through management consulting, which I can then apply meaningfully to create more effective and scalable social impact

2) Yes wanted to know what should be my target score for GMAT, I am yet to take it.

Social impact immediately after college, then no social impact perhaps for perhaps 10 years (in your current job and immediately after MBA), and then coming back to social impact after a decade.....I think the goals need to be chiseled a bit Avantika.

My role as a Consultant involves both secondary research and client-facing responsibilities, including presenting insights and aligning strategies with client goals. Post-MBA, I’m aiming for a transition into strategy or product roles in tech or consumer-focused firms. On the extracurricular front, I’ve been a competitive football player and also mentor early-career professionals in data and analytics.

Hi Prasadhd1996 , a little late to the thread but hope my 2 cents help you. in the MBA application, you basically have the freedom to stitch together your own story with your rationales. The fact that you left a cushy job as an engineer and made your way in startups in various positions with a proven track record of growth only shows the kind of person you are and the kind of challenges you seek in your professional escapades. It's not uncommon for people with an entrepreneurial spirit to find themselves in situations where businesses don't succeed and opportunities are few and far between. What you will learn from these situations and how you will use these insights to perform better in leadership positions after the MBA is what the adcoms want to hear from you. I would say that it looks better if you have undertaken a decent role at the time of application rather than a gap in your resume. If you need personalised advice, feel free to discuss your case in person. Try to cross the 675 threshold on the GMAT (I consider this score the new borderline elite).

Best wishes

Need suggestions if a lateral move will impact my chances for ISB Hyderabad Applications for R1 this year and if this will be considered as a red flag or a lack of upward trajectory in profile. Please let me know.
10th Class: 93% (AP State Board)
Intermediate: 95% (AP State Board)B.Tech Mech Engg: 80.6% (JNTU Hyderabad, Ranked #1 in Telangana)
Extracurriculars in College: Marketing head in college fest, Team lead in college race car project (Formula Bharat), participated in several other competitions
Personal Interests: Done 8+ treks including Himalayan trek
Work Experience:
1) Jul’2017 to Sep’2018 (1 Y & 3 M): Worked in Oil Industry as associate design engineer. Promoted in 1 year to Engineer -1
Wanted to move from Engineering role to marketing role and quit in Oct’18. I Learned some digital marketing courses during the break.
2) Mar’19 to De’24: Total of 6 years roughly. Joined as marketing intern and promoted multiple times (Intern - Sales Manager - Sr. Sales Manager - Associate Director - Director) in a D2C FMCG startup based out of Bangalore. Handled revenue for the company. ARR 70 Cr+. Company raised multiple rounds and has good visibility.
Resigned as Head of Revenue in Dec’24 and joined a couple of colleagues to start a company in Nutraceuticals. Couldn’t raise enough money to continue so I applied for jobs.
I currently have an offer as D2C Growth Manager in a startup in the Electric items category (Raised funding from Marquee investors). Current revenue <10 Cr. Target 25 Cr this year.
Current GMAT FE Score (Taken Last Year - 615)
I am taking GMAT again and targeting 655+
Will this move impact my chances for ISB? Should I consider moving or look for more opportunities?

Strong employer brand credentials. If you do the application exceptionally well, I don't see why you would not stand a good chance. An important thing I would like to add is to not have random goals but to utilise your knowledge and experience from past supply chain focus to your absolute advantage. By no means is yours a unique profile, even though you have a strong brand—"Amazon"—backing you, so apply as early as you can to grab one of the early admits for your field. This will be key. You may be in for a bad experience if you delay the application or if you don't get a presentable score soon. I would suggest crossing a 675 on the FE. Keep at least 1.5 months for the application. I work extensively with applicants from supply chain and ops backgrounds (also my specialisation), so feel free to gain some insights should you want.

Hello Everyone. It would be great if someone could review my profile and provide some recommendations:

10th - 92% (ICSE)
12th - 90% (ISC)
BTech Civil (Vellore Institute of Technology) - 9.02 GPA
-Vice Chairperson of College Literary Association (2019-20)
-Winner and Top scorer of Inter school Football Tournaments (2015-16)

Then after getting promoted, moved to Supply Chain Planning as a Program Manager - 1.5 years*

Also needed guidance on the following (sincerely targeting R1 of ISB):
- When should I schedule the GMAT keeping in mind the time required for LORs/essays?
- What is a good GMAT score for me?

You should have mentioned what you plan to get out of a PGP or MBA. In fact, two-thirds of the ISB essays are focused on just that aspect. With your strong quantitative/finance focus, the school would want to see a decent performance on the GMAT, so I would say that you should target upwards of a 675 to remain in the borderline elite for your demographic. I really like how you would have a plethora of finance and marketing internships to talk about, should you want to also utilise them to demonstrate a passion for whichever field you may be targeting. If you are targeting some core finance roles, a CFA would have done you good, so be very strategic with how you craft your goals strategy. I am happy to revisit this conversation should you want to share your goals and suitable schools.

To be very honest, the younger or the less experienced you are, the higher the threshold for the GMAT/GRE score expected. On the GRE, I would suggest you try to get a score upwards of 327 to stay competitive. What are your goals after the PGP, and how well have you researched the concerned career path/industry/function? If you have the answer to this, you will be a better judge of how much time you need to stitch together your essays with depth and quality. I usually recommend my mentees to keep 2 months for their first-ever B-school application.

You have solid credentials and strong feeder brands on your resume , definitely the kind of background that will open doors for you. But you need to be strategic in formulating your short-term goals. The move from BCN to Sattva appears to be a deliberate step toward impact, likely reflecting your evolving career motivation. If this is the direction you are truly following, your consulting goals should also reflect the same clarity and intent. Otherwise, you run the risk of your application materials sounding uncertain or scattered. Schools are looking for thoughtful transitions and well-aligned ambitions. I also feel that as an analyst you may not have had experienced much depth in the impact projects on which you worked as an analyst. This is a challenge which you will have to think about. I have worked closely with both BCN and Sattva candidates and would be happy to chat with you one-on-one should you want more insights.
