Hello rahul_518303,

A 645 is under the average at ISB; a score in excess of 675 along with a set of compelling application essays will give you a good chance at receiving an interview call.

All the best!

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out to request your feedback on my profile as I prepare to apply for the ISB PGP (Round 1). I’d appreciate it if you could take a few moments to review my background and share any suggestions, especially regarding an ideal GMAT score that could strengthen my application.

Educational Background
• Class X (ICSE): 94%
• Class XII (ISC): 92%
• B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, NIT Durgapur – 8.61 CGPA / 81.10%
• CFA Level I cleared

Initiatives and Extracurriculars
• Co-organizer, TEDxNITDurgapur 2021
• Led organization of annual college fests; managed a team of 50+ members
• Multiple accolades in debates and Model United Nations
• Spearheaded a year-long team-building program at ZS Associates, engaging 150+ colleagues through targeted initiatives

Social Impact
• Volunteered in community programs, supporting the education needs of 100+ children

Professional Experience
• Current Role: Associate Consultant at ZS Associates
• Joining FanCode in mid-June 2025
• Total Work Experience: 3 years (as of July 2025)

Post-MBA Goal
My long-term goal is to contribute to the innovation and growth of startups and small-scale businesses by working as a strategic partner and investor, similar to the role played by venture capitalists. I hope to combine strategic thinking, operational expertise, and capital to help early-stage businesses scale effectively.

I welcome any feedback on profile strengths, gaps, and areas of improvement. Your input would mean a lot as I work toward building a strong application.

Thanks in advance!

CFA 🤔👍🏻 (Get to a L2 at least if you want a career in finance)
UG ECs 🧡🧡
Regular ECs 💔 (non-aligned, low impact: goes against purpose driven attitude- can be fixed)
Work ex is on the younger side but definitely try

I don’t understand the goals partly due to the open options from what you’ve said. Are you looking at being involved in the venture arm of big tech or are you looking for working independently in an entrepreneurial ecosystem as an LP for a VC(you need to come from money for that), or do you actually want to be in a VC firm itself? And early stage VC is the trickiest to be a part of, what are you planning to do?

NikhilBajpai10 A 675 is very close to the average for your demographic. Ideally, you would want to do better than the average.
Regarding your goals strategy, as much as it may sound interesting to you, it may not elicit the same response from the admissions committee. It takes a good bit of introspection and research to formulate solid goals when you're focused on a school and researching prospective career paths. Generic goals in a crowded applicant pool can erode the distinctiveness of your narrative . Highly recommend that you read my write-up.

Hi NikhilBajpai10

What do you want to do post-MBA? And how does your previous experience make you the best-suited candidate for these roles (only if you had the backing of a prestigious B-school)? You need not answer me here, but this is what you should reflect on before researching B-schools abroad. ISB is a strong feeder into tech/product roles in India, but the competition is tough. You need to accept that yours is a fairly generic profile in the eyes of the adcom, so you will have to put in significant work to speak about your experiences and impact in a way that helps you stand out. What is your long-term vision for your career? How do you plan to create a meaningful impact in your field? Try to aim upwards of 675, you will want to do considerably better than the average for your demographic. The higher, the better. With your kind of experience, it could very well come down to stats. If you are eligible, definitely consider IIM ABC for the PGP programs.

Short-Term Goal:
After my MBA, I aim to join a leading technology firm or consulting company as a Product Manager or Cloud Strategy Consultant, where I can leverage my cloud engineering background to design scalable digital solutions and drive business impact.

Long-Term Goal:
In the long term, I aspire to take on a leadership role in digital transformation, helping organizations integrate cloud-native solutions into their core business models, ideally in a global role that combines product innovation and strategic execution.
But 675 is like 720+ right
675 is too much right?

The ZS is a feeder organisation not only for the ISB, but for the best B-schools worldwide. You have good credentials and obviously a solid academic background. Make sure that your professional advancement is evident in the way you talk about your experience and insights. It goes without saying that a strong sectoral focus, such as your passion for a particular area of healthcare, may be the catalyst for your need for an MBA. Research your goals strategy well and consider why you are particularly suited to these positions. A score of 665-675 would be ideal.

Good profile overall. A GMAT of 675+ will keep you competitive for ISB. The move to FanCode can be a strong talking point - make sure to explain the rationale clearly, especially how it aligns with your career goals and why an MBA is the right next step.
