The longer you stay in one company, the harder it becomes to break away from your domain focus. Adding the PSU tag to your experience will also bring several preconceived notions into the minds of adcoms, which you will either have to appeal to or consciously break.
I mentored an oil PSU professional (IOCL) with over 11 years of experience who eventually made it to IIM Ahmedabad PGPX. I can share a few observations on what worked well for him. He had very smartly moved across multiple functions within the org, from operations to maintenance to retail sales and Business development, which allowed him to speak about business strategy and commercial decision-making as he progressed in his career. One advantage of spending a longer time in a PSU is that it could provide opportunities to build breadth across functions, something that is much harder for someone who has spent fewer than five years doing only operations or maintenance, for example. If that is also true in your case, then your odds to credibly pivot into strategy, business development, or consulting become stronger. I work with psu, defense and ops leadership profiles every year so feel free to speak for a detailed discussion around your work profile.

Best wishes

Hi,

Where did you complete your post-graduation? Also, have you thought about your post-MBA career goals? Your extracurriculars look decent.
With a 315 GRE, ISB and IIM A/B would be quite challenging. IIM L/I/K are realistic options. If possible, consider a GRE retake and aim for 322+ to improve your chances at IIM A/B.

Happy to connect if you’d like to discuss your profile in more detail.

Hi,

A 675 GMAT Focus is competitive for most one-year MBA programs. Your transition from sales to BFSI credit analysis reflects strong career progression, while generating ₹2 crore in revenue at Byju's and evaluating ₹10,000+ crore of corporate debt are notable achievements. While there are a few details missing to fully assess your profile, based on the information shared, it appears to be competitive overall.

Happy to connect if you’d like to discuss your profile in more detail.

Hi @WA@xbb7123,

A score of 655+ will put you in the race. Your undergrad score has dipped. Ensure that you work on your applications and present a strong case for your candidature. A good starting point will be to introspect what transferable skills you bring to transition into Product Management and how will an MBA help you reach there. All the best!!

Regards,

Lakshya-Admit
