Absolutely @WA@dgx3957. The "oil psu" folks whom I have worked with in the past, have had phenomenal work experience in operations or marketing. So, they could be a great fit in consulting in operations or marketing domains.

As an aside, consulting companies often do pay significant emphasis on the grades of the candidate during the MBA. So, the eventual realization of your aspiration to move into consulting would also depend on how you perform academically during the MBA.

Any candidate coming from Government services is always at a very good advantage during application process at IIM A|B|C and ISB.

Since your experience is over 10 years (by the time you join a school), it;s very important that you can justify your relevance in Essays and Interview

I am 100% sure that you would have some amazing stories to write. Just make it a point to turn them into memorable stories of leadership and put them forward in essays.

Consider taking GMAT/GRE if you haven’t received a decent score to apply with already.

**Hi Loanwolf, here's my honest take:**

**Yes, ISB is possible from your background** they admit healthcare/life-sciences candidates every year, and your goal (consulting at IQVIA/Novartis) actually fits your clinical data curation experience well. That's a coherent story, which matters more than pedigree.

**But you have two real hurdles:**

**1. Academics.** Your 10th (67%) and 12th (56%) scores are below ISB's typical range. You can't change these, so your GMAT has to do the heavy lifting to prove academic ability. Your Master's at 77% helps show an upward trend, use that in your essays.

**2. Work experience.** At 2.6 years, you're on the lower end for ISB PGP (average is ~3-4 years). Clinical data curation is also individual-contributor work, so admissions will look hard for leadership signals, team lead responsibilities, mentoring, process improvements you owned, client-facing work. Start building and documenting these now.

**GMAT target:** Don't think "minimum." With below-average academics and lower work experience, aim for **675+ on GMAT Focus** (ideally 685+) to offset the profile gaps. A 645 "minimum" score from your position likely means a ding.

**Practical suggestions:**
- Consider applying with 3+ years of experience (next cycle) if you can get a promotion or leadership role in the meantime
- Position your story as "domain insider": you understand pharma data/RWE from the inside, which is exactly what healthcare consulting firms want
- Get certifications or visible projects in healthcare analytics/HEOR if possible
- Also look at IIM one-year programs (IIMA PGPX needs 4+ years, but IIMB EPGP and IIMC MBAEx are options as you gain experience)

The path exists, but it runs through an exceptional GMAT score and a sharper leadership narrative. Good luck!

You already know this that your 10th, 12th scores are on lower side and all the more reasons for you to get a solid GMAT score of atleast 685.

- GMAT Focus Mock score so far: 695 (Q88, V84, DI81)
- B.Com (2018, Private university), CGPA: 6.55/10.
- Strong school academics: 10 CGPA (Class 10), 95.4% (Class 12); cleared CA IPCC Group I and CS Executive.

Work Experience (~9 years by matriculation)

- Faculty across leading test-prep companies (CAT/GMAT/Law), teaching 5,000+ students and mentoring 2,000+.
- Started my own education venture in 2023.

**Hi Loanwolf, here’s my honest take:**

**Yes, ISB is possible from your background** they admit healthcare/life-sciences candidates every year, and your goal (consulting at IQVIA/Novartis) actually fits your clinical data curation experience well. That’s a coherent story, which matters more than pedigree.

**But you have two real hurdles:**

**1. Academics.** Your 10th (67%) and 12th (56%) scores are below ISB’s typical range. You can’t change these, so your GMAT has to do the heavy lifting to prove academic ability. Your Master’s at 77% helps show an upward trend, use that in your essays.

**2. Work experience.** At 2.6 years, you’re on the lower end for ISB PGP (average is ~3-4 years). Clinical data curation is also individual-contributor work, so admissions will look hard for leadership signals, team lead responsibilities, mentoring, process improvements you owned, client-facing work. Start building and documenting these now.

**GMAT target:** Don’t think "minimum." With below-average academics and lower work experience, aim for **675+ on GMAT Focus** (ideally 685+) to offset the profile gaps. A 645 "minimum" score from your position likely means a ding.

**Practical suggestions:**
- Consider applying with 3+ years of experience (next cycle) if you can get a promotion or leadership role in the meantime
- Position your story as "domain insider": you understand pharma data/RWE from the inside, which is exactly what healthcare consulting firms want
- Get certifications or visible projects in healthcare analytics/HEOR if possible
- Also look at IIM one-year programs (IIMA PGPX needs 4+ years, but IIMB EPGP and IIMC MBAEx are options as you gain experience)

The path exists, but it runs through an exceptional GMAT score and a sharper leadership narrative. Good luck!
