I wouldn’t trust anything anyone knows and strongly encourage any other students to stop sharing half baked assumptions. I imagine those who haven’t received a decision must be very anxious and I’m sure the speculation doesn’t help much with that

It happened to someone I had helped last year, he had already received an invite from schools like Tepper n all and Rice had given no decision. He had later negotiated and paid deposit to other schools and then later reached out to Rice, then got rejected officially. Weird case.

Reach out to school in a week’s time of you don’t get any outcome

Hoping this helps settle the speculation because this was the case last year

And also, no humans were harmed, if anything, he laughed it off as he had other admits

I've been accepted to both Rice and McCombs. Did my undergrad in Texas and have lived here my entire life.

Despite what rankings may tell you the difference is not that large (if any at all) within Texas and especially within Houston. Neither is a top MBB recruiting school, although both schools are possible to get recruited from.

Both schools are "hustle" schools, where your job results will come from how much work you put in.

McCombs is better if you do not have an existing network and want to leave Texas for another state.

Internationally it is a wash; neither school is that recognized.

Rice is genuinely better for O&G, especially private equity O&G where Rice has an amazing network.

Very different cities.

Houston is not a party city. Austin is. Genuinely be careful about going to McCombs if you feel that you could be distracted. I'm not discounting how great a program it is, but I'd be remised not to say that students that don't come in with strong moral foundations can slip in that environment.

Houston still has a traditional Texas feel (think Dallas,) Austin has a Texas + California feel which would expose you to more varieties of American culture.

Houston is more business, and family friendly. Austin is more young adult, and tech forward.

Much, much more tech opportunities in Austin as well as an amazing sport scene that Rice does not have.

You can check the Michelin guide to see that both cities have great food, although Houston being a larger city has more food options and overall more quantity of better restaurants. Although per capita it's probably about the same.
