R1 Applicants,
What perspective should Essay #3 be in? The essay question is: Assume you are evaluating your application from the perspective of a student member of the Kellogg Admissions Committee.
Why would your peers select you to become a member of the Kellogg community? The bolded part is a bit confusing because first of all, the question seems as if it's asking why I think the student adcom member should select me-and if that is the intent of the question, then the essay should be written in first person. The thing is, how can I write an essay from the first person when I'm supposed to be the 3rd person evaluating my own profile (per first part of the question)
Can someone shed some light into this?
Far and away, the consensus on here is that there is no right answer. Do whatever feels natural to you. In my opinion, third person is a bit harder to write/riskier but it may be easier/perfect for you.
Another issue that has come up with this question is the introduction of new information (not mentioned in other sections of your app). Again, there is no correct answer but my feeling is that you can build on stuff that your previously mention but shy away from introducing something totally new. If you do want to mention something new, try to briefly mention it somewhere else.
As an aside, will someone please block me from this forum and make me do my job?
