I think having them fill out the forms helps you since it shows they care enough to take the time to do it in the forms. They do want the questions answered not a generic rec form.

Thanks riverripper!
I got it all wrong. :) Hope it isn't too late.

high hopes - I'd written it in firts person too but a recent kellogg alumni reviewed my essay and said that it should be in third person. Just sharing her opinion for your info.

For people who are writing essay 3 in third person - how do you include any new information? Is it ok to refer to things you plan to tell your interviewer? as that is rightfully part of the "applictaion" that a student memeber is reviewing , as well?

If yours is in first person, I wouldn't worry about it. This is really one of those points people get overly worked up about. If it has content and examples, it is good :P

Did mine in first person as well. I felt it flowed better that way.

I posted this earlier in the chain, but will repost. I read this in an old BW interview with Beth Flye. It was from (I think) the year before last year when they had a very similar question, only it didn't read from the perspective of the student ad com, it just said from the perspective of the ad com. I assume the same still holds true.

Q: Kellogg's third essay asks applicants to evaluate their own file. Should they include new information or base responses on what's presented in the rest of the application?
Flye: That's a matter of personal preference. If an applicant sees that as a good opportunity to submit something new, that's fine. At the same time, we do have an optional essay that allows an applicant to share pertinent information that hasn't been shared anyplace else.

Mine was, but I don't think so. At first it was too large, so I was going to do it in black and white, but my scanner wasn't working well, so I compressed it instead.

35 minutes. Really short interview, which was totally like different from last year, but I just talk faster and faster as I get nervous. Anyways here's the breakdown of what was asked.

Run through your UG experience?
Why did you choose to get a masters in School XX?
What do you do at Company XYZ?
What do you feel that you have been improving on at Company XYZ?
Why an MBA?
What happens if you are unable to get a job within Big3 Consulting given the current environment?*
Tell me about your current extra cirricular activities and what moviates you?
Why Kellogg?
Anything else you would like to share?

Pretty basic questions. I my answers could have been better.

Good recap GoBruins! Was the interviewer from a Big 3 firm? Or was he just asking the question based on the career goals you had mentioned?

Now all thats left is submitting part 2. Good luck.

Guys, Need a confirmation that Option 1 is better for LOR:

 I DO WAIVE my right to inspect the contents of this letter of recommendation. I understand it shall remain confidential and that I will not have access to read it.

hi bandit,

personally i do not think its makes that much of a difference, but i do remember that i read somewhere in the forums that the Adcom likes to see applicants waiving their right to see the LOR. If you are comfortable with your recommenders i.e no backstabbers :-), just choose option 1.

and good luck to you GoBruins. The interview must have been short since you are a reapplying.

so did you go on campus for the inteview or by phone?

What happens if you are unable to get a job within Big3 Consulting given the current environment?

I find this a really interesting question, since if we do get in, we wont be graduating till 2012, or it would be atleast nearly end of 2011( 2 years from now), before the job fairs start. Maybe they too are expecting this recession to be long drawn out affair.

Hey everyone,

Had my interview at Kellogg this week. All in all, I think it went OK. Not my strongest interview of all time but I'm pleased that I was able to answer the questions with some confidence and at least be comfortable. Like I said, I interviewed on campus with an associate director of admissions. She was extremely friendly and the environment was relaxed.

I did a class visit with a Business Strategy class in the morning in which they talked about Porter Five Forces and used the backdrop of Boeing/Airbus and the development of the 787 Dreamliner, so it was EXTREMELY interesting to me considering i plan to go into the airlines/aerospace after school.

After the class did the little campus tour and lunch with students. The students at the school were EXTREMELY laid back and friendly. I know this is said a lot, but I can't overemphasize how great these people were. Not an ounce of pompousness in them, just fantastic.

I then had my interview. Like I said, pretty standard interview. It lasted about 50 minutes, so I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing...like I said she was an ADCOM so I figured it'd be closer to the 30 minutes they said, but maybe I just talk to much. The questions were pretty basic though:
1) Tell me about your UG experience
2) Why did you choose this company
3) Tell me about a time you had to lead a successful team
4) Greatest professional failure/accomplishment
5) Tell me about something that's NOT on your resume
6) Short/long term goals
7) Why an MBA/Kellogg

It wasn't necessarily in that order but that's basically what I got from what I remember. The visit, while its my first official visit, has 10000% sealed the deal that Kellogg is my number 1. Now that my recommenders are getting serious on their letters I'm hoping to have part 2 submitted this weekend.

Good luck to everyone!
