Just to give everyone a little taste of Kellogg, I wanted to share something with you.
A little after the beginning of each year, the Kellogg Student Administration holds a short ettiquest meeting with all students where they reinforce the rules of behaviour at Kellogg. Only when you arrive in the school do you realize how the "play nice" culture is important at Kellogg.
Anyways, I was fortunate enough to have a small role in preparing the movie that was shown at the event. The goal was to send a clear message about proper behaviour at Kellogg events while keeping it fun and entertaining. Hope you like it:

From this thread and the prospectives I have met at various info sessions, Kellogg seems to be an overwhelmingly popular choice this year. Has this always been the case? Are people "hedging their bets" as acceptances to S/H seem more daunting (I hate what that implies since Kellogg is an amazing school, but it just seems like [on some boards] people are ranking whores)?
A lot of people I talked to have Stanford and Kellogg or Harvard and Kellogg as top choices, seems to buck the conventional wisdom that many applicants have been holding to for years (H/S/W).
In any case, good luck to you all. I hope to learn from you round 1 folks as I will be a round 2 applicant. Looking to start my essays this weekend.

You know 2012dreams, I've heard something tangential regarding Wharton. Not as many people seem to be aiming for there this year. In the eyes of my recommenders, it has fallen in prestige as well. His point was "its undoubtedly a better school, but its not going to get you where H/S will."
I myself have downgraded to a R2. On paper, I didn't think it was a great fit for me and was considering dropping it, but after visiting both Chicago -area schools.....I felt a much better vibe from Kellogg than I thought I would.
Hi guys, I'm struggling with Essay 1's word limit - looking for some advice.
1. Is anyone mentioning "Why now?"
2. Currently I'm also describing why I want to do what I want to do in the future. Should I be doing so?
3. I'm planning to take the word "briefly" to heart and not focus so much on my career progress to date, except to how it relates to my future plans. What does Adcom care about more? Where you want to go and how Kellogg can help, or what have you done till now?

I don’t think its all that different than normal years. According to BW these are the number of applicants. I think Columbia is definitely helped by its location, just looking at NYU shows that NYC is a big driver in applications. Plenty of people who are doing finance use CBS as a backup to HBS and Wharton. HBS: 8661 Wharton: 7328 Stanford: 6575 Columbia: 5999 Kellogg: 5051 NYU: 4779 Booth: 4144 MIT: 3896 Haas: 3779 Tuck: 2898
As for brand I think people who say your career will not be the same if you don’t go to HBS really don’t understand the current environment in many areas. Yes if you want some of the exotic finance jobs (HF/VC/PE) then HBS gives you a HUGE advantage. But if you are looking for a career in industry then I actually think it may be more of a hindrance than help these days. Alums from certain schools have reputations of feeling like they have that degree so they should have everything handed to them on a silver platter and often they are viewed skeptically for having genuine interest. It’s a lot easier to sell a big corporation they are your dream from other schools than a place like HBS, especially these days when plenty of folks have pretty long back-up lists.

1. I have a sentence that doesn't really say this, but does sort of infer it. 2. I felt like there was a pretty natural tie in from my past experiences to my goals, so I didn't explicitly say I want to do x because of y. I think you need to say why you want to, but I think if it can easily be inferred, then it's not as necessary. 3. I agree, I think they mean briefly. I had less than a paragraph, probably around 100 words
Just submitted my Part II, and have my interview on the 21st !! It hasn't really hit me yet, but I suppose I can now dedicate some time to practicing for the interview.
How'd you guys go about doing that ? Did you just practice answering the questions you know are coming, like why mba, why kellogg, etc ?
Submitted Part 2 the other day and just got back from my interview. 70% of the time was probably spent on my resume, but all in all it was just a conversation. Know your resume and "story" and don't stress too much about it. Fingers crossed now - best of luck to everyone finishing up their Rd 1 apps this week!
Just had my interview today with a local alum. Kind of strange but I think it went well. He had asked me to send my resume over beforehand but he never looked at it or had it out during the interview. All he asked me was 1.) tell me about yourself 2.) What do you know about Kellogg 3.) What value would you add to Kellogg 4.) Where do you want to go with your career 5.) Do you have any concerns about going to b-school 6.) tell me a leadership story. After that he said well do you have any questions for me? I was stunned that that was it. I had all these other stories and points I wanted to make saved up that I figured we would get to in later questions. I was able to get out some of those points while I asked him stuff because it basically just turned into conversation. However, I didn't get to make a lot of the points I wanted to make especially regarding my current experience. The interview lasted only 45 minutes which I was surprised about too. I don't know if I should be worried about that or not but I thought it went ok though.

Definitely have thoughtful responses for why this/that, but don't overdo it so that it sounds robotic. Otherwise I think it's best to just have a list of as many "stories" as possible that exemplify leadership/teamwork/initiative/failure/etc. It's often tough to think of those on the spot so try to keep them at the top of your mind.
I apologize if this has been asked (and answered) before:
If I'm uploading my official GMAT score report, do I still need to send Kellogg my score through mba.com? I had not listed Kellogg as one of my 5 free schools when I took the GMAT.
