I just submitted - I interview Monday and then comes the wait... Congrats to everyone that's interviewed!!

Question about the interview: I submitted Part 1 on Sep 30, and still don't have any email about who my interviewer will be or anything.
Should I wait for some more time? Will the communication be through email or the status check page?
thanks
WG

Depending on the area, you may have to wait to get an interview...I wouldn't sweat it.....

Question, what to do if my essay is over the words limit? Right now it stoods at 647 words against the 600 words limit. It's a little longer than a page. I am wondering what should I do :?:

I wouldn't worry about it because its well under the +10% limit...

You will receive an e-mail from the admissions committee regarding the interview assignment. My application status page doesn't indicate anything about the interview.
Just to make sure you receive the email, add the e-mail address to your address book so that it doesn't end up in your spam folder

10% is too much... if the limit is 200, maybe 10% (20 words) is ok. But 60 words are a lot!
i'd say stay under 620 or at most 630 (5%)

I submitted my essays with Essay 1 sitting at a word count of 645. I think it reads really well, so the length might not be noticed ... and I think that's the key. If the essay doesn't read too well, then the adcom will definitely notice the length.

On another note, I'm going through some interview prep now, and have noticed this common question: Walk me through your resume. How are you folks planning on answering this question ?

Just my opinion but I don't see a 5% or 10% cushion. The limit is just 600 words.

If you can add 5%, why not 10% or 15%. Perhaps someone has heard different from admissions but it just seems easier to me to stay under the limit.

On another note, congrats to those who are done. Must feel great. Looking forward to that feeling as I trim my essays down... :)

I am going to cut my essay down to the limit. My philosophy is they are reviewing thousands of applications and this is just an excuse to narrow down the pile for not following instructions.

If any of you have done college recruiting for your employer and have had a stack of hundreds of resumes for just 20 interview slots, one of the easiest ways to narrow the pile is toss resumes that are over a page long. I am taking this reasoning to the word limit.

I've also thought about doing it third person as something that would be a little variation to the essays. I'm still undecided on that one, was gonna ask some alums (Isa, Jerz??) what they thought. It might depend on your write style in the first 2 essays. The way the question is written, it wouldn't be too out of lines to start out in 3rd person.

I think with character trait consulting, it is better to explicitly state some traits you want the adcoms to notice, whether directly mentioning it, stating what you learned from it, or through an example. If the adcom draws any additional conculsions it would be a bonus. It's definitely better than someone reading going "why was this line even in here?"[/quote]

I don't think Third Person is necessary/suitable here. The essay says Why would the evaluator select YOU? which means they're still talking about your candidacy.

I'm doing first person and looking at this as a different spin on the How will you contribute to Kellogg? essay
any other approaches?
thanks

Had my interview today. Not perfect, but it went pretty well I think.

I interviewed with an admissions officer. She was really nice and very down to earth. I have heard this before, but when you interview at Kellogg, there is no table or anything, you just sit across from each other, which was nice, sort of quaint. It was right around a half hour. One nice thing that Kellogg does is have you write down your short and long term goals, so you don't have to worry about explaining them and then trying to figure out how much to elaborate and whether they'll ask about them later.

Most of the questions were typical (generally the format seemed to be provide a skill, give an example):
Walk me through your resume
Why MBA/Why Now
Why Kellogg
How have you developed as a leader?
Goals (just touched on these since you write them).
Give an example of a time you managed conflict.
What's your most important contribution at work?
What would your colleagues say about you after you left (1 good and 1 bad)?
Asked about an EC.

Now the waiting begins!! Good luck to everyone finishing up!

I scheduled my interview for Oct 21st. However, work has picked up dramatically. Has anyone tried changing the date of the interview? Would it be bad if I had to postpone my interview? I don't know if I'd be as prepared as I would want to be for the interview :(.

I've got my interview on the 21st as well ... I was thinking about changing the location from the alum's office, but decided against it. I just hope he isn't too distracted :)

hey people - if you read montauk's book every adcom interviewed says people must stick to word limits as it gives you an unfair advantage if you dont. Also some mentioned that they code checkers into the application.

good luck to all!
