I wouldn't hold any weight to the GMAT as a guiding principle for any decisions. Plus, I think the GMAT as a measure of "smart people" is a joke. It only shows how good you are at taking the GMAT.

Funny, because Kellogg has the lowest GMAT average among the top 10 but is consistently ranked near #5. Goes to show you that they are picking smart business people that recruiters want as opposed to only high gmat scorers recruiters do not want.

They are obviously doing something right.

Waitlisted - my status changed at some point this morning, and I got an email about an hour ago. I've updated the spreadsheet. Time to get cracking on those R2 applications!

I wonder if the waitlist letters are standardized? People mind posting a couple (with vital information taken out, of course).

agh...waitlisted as well. this just ups the ante for wharton tomorrow!

btw, here's the text from the waitlist letter:
The Admissions Committee has reviewed your application for admission to Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. While we are impressed with your accomplishments, we cannot provide an offer of admission at this time. However, we are pleased to inform you that you have been placed on our wait list for the MBA Program based upon the merits of your application.

Our wait list is not ranked, and it will be re-evaluated periodically as we continue to fill the class. The number of applicants who have received admission from the wait list has varied each year based on the applicant pool. If we are able to offer you admission, we will notify you immediately.

We appreciate your patience and understand that you may have questions about the wait list. To learn more, please visit the following web site where you will find helpful information: (I'm too new of a member and the forum won't let me post links yet). If you would like to speak with an admissions officer, please feel free to contact us at 847.491.3308 or via email at [email protected].

If you choose to withdraw from our wait list, please contact us in writing. Thank you for your patience and continued interest in the Kellogg School of Management.

Sincerely,

Beth Flye

As per a clear admit counselor's post in Beat the Gmat forum in Mar 2009
"we've observed that candidates who make the waitlist in R1 at schools like Kellogg and Wharton often have odds of nearly 1 in 2 when it comes to getting in at some point before the end of the admissions cycle. For R2 waitlisters, the odds at these programs have typically diminished somewhat - to roughly 1 in 3"

I don't buy into that. Although it is a different school, Cal had this from a chat last year:
Over the past five years, the number of waitlisted candidates who received an offer was between 10% and 30% on average. It depends largely on the quality of applications in the subsequent round.

That sounds like a more reasonable range.
