Hi Folks, I'm applying in R2 and I've 2 question regarding the Kellogg application Deadlines.

1. What's the actual difference between Part1 and Part2 for R2 deadline? Considering I'm looking for ON-CAMPUS interview, the deadline for both Part1 and Part2 is Jan10th, 2012.
2. I'm re-taking my GMAT on Jan3rd, 2012. I hope its fine for R2 because Kellogg allows you to self-report the GMAT score in Part1. Official report will be automatically available to kellogg after 12-14 days.

Any comments folks? Please suggest.
Cheers!

Part I just allows you to provide the basic info about your self, resume, scores, etc. It also allows you to choose an on campus or off campus interview. If you choose off campus, then the deadline is earlier to get part 1 in because they need time to schedule an interview for you with an alum in your city. If you are choosing on-campus, then the deadline will probably be the same for part II. Part II allows you to update info that may have changed from Part I, ie GMAT scores. Also, that is where the essays are located.

Word on the street is that things are different this year. Kellogg will be notifying applicants next week. While another week of waiting sucks, it does cut down on the amount of time we have to be slaves to our phones and inboxes. Here's hoping to calls for all of us.

Hey guys!
I was wondering on the optional essay.. and want your 2 cents on it.
I have a 710 on the gmat with the quant fig at 77%. Coming from an engineering background, i have fared pretty in my quant course work and currently work in sales of a consultancy in energy and quant is our language of communication so to speak. To add a twist to the tale, I am an Indian candidate :)

What do you think? is this optional essay worthy?

A 77% isn't too shabby at all. And given your background, there's really no reason for them to doubt your quantitative abilities.

Therefore, I wouldn't touch the optional essay. There's no reason to bring yourself unwanted scrutiny in that area.

I was in the same predicament. I decided that my academic record and work record speak for themselves and that overall my GMAT was pretty good so bringing it up would make me sound like I worry too much. I'd say to make sure that you demonstrate your quantitative abilities through an example or two in your other essays. Additionally, you might want to tell your recommenders that you messed up the quant section of your GMAT a little, so if they can attest to your math skills in their recommendations you'd appreciate it.

However, being an Indian candidate, the quant section may be more important, so I can't pretend that what I did will work for you. Or even that it will work for me :)

Thats exactly my worry! given that i happen to be in the over represented group, i dont want this petty point to be an obstacle. I had spoken to a admission consultant who was an ex-dean of admissions herself. She apparently was most certain that less than 80% on quant will take me down. if i want to make it to R2 neither do i have the time nor the inclination to retake the gmat!

Guys,

I think Kellogg is a great school. I am planning to apply to Kellogg for R2. Appearing for GMAT soon. Could you all please share your interview experiences ? How would you guys rate kellogg when compared to similar league schools like Booth, Columbia, MIT, Duke ?

regards,

Datta

Hi Datta,

Kellogg PART II R2 deadline is 10th Jan. Hope you will sort out our GMAT by then. When are you planning on giving your GMAT? Well there are different ways of comparing schools and there are a lot of online surveys that do this, ex: FT Rankings, etc. But, the real question is what is it that you want to do in a B-School. What would be your concentration? Booth, Columbia, MIT, etc are all as good in some way or the other. You need to pay attention to the kind of profiles that these schools attract before applying. If you believe you have a Marketing experience or you have experiences that justify your prefernce for Marketing, Kellogg is the best place for you. Having said that, you must also look at the other parameters like: No of international students enrolled in previous years, pre MBA work experience (industry), average GMAT (I think international students should target a GMAT score of Avg + 10 to be safe).

If you are from IT background, always remember that you will be competing against other IT folks only, and not people from Marketing, Manufacturing, Banking, etc. Since most of the good universities have a diversity concept, they will try and make sure that they take in people from all spheres (as much as possible). So don't worry if you are from IT, just make sure that you have enough material in your package! I started off as a software engineer, and now I am an Associate Consultant with a GMAT score of 700. I would suggest that you give in your best and leave the rest to destiny.

PM me if you want to discuss any specific points :)

Thanks a lot SR85 ... your words are encouraging... i will go ahead and apply to Kellogg. I think I will get back in touch with you when I am done with my GMAT (no point talking without having a solid score). With your kind of experience, I am sure that Kellogg will take you without a doubt. BTW how was your interview experience ? What questions were asked ? Anything particular that you felt about the interview process ?
