I went through the Kellogg WL forums for last year and the year before. There was more movement in 2013 than 2014. That being said, I spoke with a friend who is a 2nd year at Kellogg who said that she knows quite a few people who made it off the wait list.

People can be very active with their WL manager or can send one comprehensive update, but essentially it's a waiting game.

Here.

The Kellogg text is a bit confusing to me:

Quote:
The Admissions Committee will be rendering decisions on a rolling basis between January and August. Applicants who are placed on the waitlist will be considered for admission in the subsequent round(s). Shortly after each decision deadline, a waitlist candidate can expect to hear from the committee with either a final admit/deny decision or an invitation to remain on our waitlist into the following round(s).

Is it rolling admission or not?

I think they say it's rolling admission, but the reality is they are holding us in the queue to see what the next round applicants look like and/or who accepts their offer and puts down a deposit.

From last year it appears there was a few days where a lot of "decisions" or updates went out and they were in conjunction with later round decisions.

It also sounds like their WL managers are friendly and amicable. I look forward to talking with mine about my next steps.

I know how much we all dislike theories at this point, but here is mine. People could be wait listed for a number of different reasons and be admitted at different times based on those reasons.

1. Application was just a bit off and needs clarification/correction (let's say your recommender didn't follow directions or submitted an incomplete recommendation) - clarification needs to be sent and they'll render a ding or admit upon receipt
2. Too many applicants with similar background, a spot needs to open up for you - wait for R1, R2, or R3 deposit deadlines
3. Borderline candidates - wait for R2 or R3 admit results

Just my theory to make some sense of the process.

The text in the FAQ says do not contact the adcom directly and they wont be providing feedback. The link they say will just enable us to fill a form to say we want to be on the waitlist. Will we be assigned a WM this year?

I'm with you guys, I really felt I had a strong application. Maybe it was that darn video essay...

I'll keep you guys updated on whether I get an email from them about my waitlist manager/any forms to fill out.

Good point... IDK.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

I was given a team in the time between submitting my app and now, so i'm hoping that increased responsibility will be enough to push me over the edge. Based on the FAQ though it doesn't seem like we will be assigned a Wait-List Manager.

Did anyone receive the email where they attach the form that confirms your desire to stay on the wait list? I have yet to receive that email.

The email will come in January.

FWIW, I spoke to a friend of mine, who is at Harvard, over the weekend and he told me he had friends waitlisted at both Kellogg and Stanford in R1 last year, both of whom were admitted to both programs in R2.

Hopefully that's the case for some of us :)
