Good luck to all the MITsdm 2021 applicants.
Anyone heard back from SDM office on interviews?
The last interview I had given was 17years ago

, so would like to get some interview preparation tips?
Hopefully this can help. From the thread in 2019, here is some feedback about the interview content (direct quotes):
[*] They want to know if you believe in what the various essays you have written say, and generally test your commitment and articulation. My interview was along those lines. They did not ask me any questions that would test my knowledge of systems design or anything like that. I also asked them a lot of questions when it was my turn, more to understand what I would need to do to complete the program.
[*] Pretty straight forward questions about my work experiences, career aspirations, and why SDM etc.
[*] why sdm why now, we are concerned about [my lack of} experience.
From behavioral interviews in the past, and exploring what SDM is looking for in applicants, i might suggest coming up with a few (2 - 3) situations and stories that you can use to highlight various characteristics and strengths. You can use the same story that can be driven toward whatever questions they ask. In fact I would encourage that. I would include
[*]A time when you had to resolve conflict
[*] A time when you didn't get along with a team member and what you did to mediate the situation
[*] A time when you demonstrated great leadership
[*] A very proud moment in your life and / or career
Also gear these towards the mission statement of SDM. Try to show why you think these experiences led you to SDM.
Be real, be calm and be friendly and don't worry. Having friendly conversation goes a very long way, and prepping a few stories before hand will help the nerves. At least it helps mine.
Good luck to all of us, and if anyone does attend an interview, please let us know how it went and what we might expect!
EDIT: Also prepare good questions!! This is super important and I can't believe I forgot it. Try to ask more specific questions, and make sure that the answers aren't available on the website (and if it is, then ask for further detail or clarification). The goal, second to getting more information, should be to show that you did your research and you are serious about the program.
