Is someone having trouble with the PM tool??? My massages are stuck on my outbox.
Hey brz, I got your message. PMs look like they're stuck in your outbox until the recipient reads it.

It's the first choice for me. Do you guys think the increased number of RD1 applicants (compared to numbers from last year) on GMATClub is a function of more awareness and willingness of applicants to post or a function of increased overall RD1 applications? I hope it's the first. :-D

During MIT Sloan info session with Mr. Rod Garcia in Brazil he stated that every year applications are going higher.
In addition, he said that MIT's applications are the ones that have the greatest increase per year (in percentage terms).

I believe that we can see this trend in the increase in posts/applications in our forum.

I think it's mainly a function of having a more active group of MIT applicants on the forum this year, which encourages others to participate in the discussion and share their status. I wouldn't expect the increase in our participation to translate into a comparable increase in all MIT applications.

I don't know whether dings are being sent.
Last week I attended the Ambassador Program at Sloan and talked with Harriet Barnett (from Admissions). The only thing she confirmed me was that during November ADCOM would read and grade all applications that Rod had sent them.
Then during mid-Deccember invitations would appear, to be conducted by January.

She didn't mention anything about dinging people during the process.

Anyway this was a 30 min conversation with her. During Rod's presentation in Brazil, he told the same story, without mentioning dings.

Hope this info had helped in anyway :)

I hope you are right. It's hard to imagine MIT application numbers increasing even more dramatically. Two years ago was a record high in application numbers with ~4100; then last year, the number went up to ~4800. I seriously cannot image it going past ~5000, but who knows. For everyone's sake, let's hope the numbers dip a bit, if not significantly.

Friends,
From reading several of the admissions blogs and posts, I have identified specific words from ad-comm about seven of the nine criteria.
ACADEMIC
GMAT
GPA
Work Success
LEADERSHIP
Creativity
Relationship Building
Goal Setting
Influencing
(+2)

Hope this helps those trying to formulate their exact focus areas.
Cheers!

Taken from Rod Garcia's Interviews in past as archived on Accepted.com
Quote:
That’s right. We score the applications. We don’t have a global rating. Instead, we score every attribute. There are about nine that we look at, ranging from GMAT score to GPA to work success to all the other attributes, like leadership attributes. Essentially there are two major groups of attributes – demonstrated success (GMAT, GPA, work success) and then the leadership attributes. We add up the sum of the two scores, and based on those two scores I will decide the 18 percent who will be invited for an interview.

Quote:
It’s actually quite easy. We don’t spend a lot of time debating because we can refer to something specific in the application. Either it’s there or it’s not there. We don’t say, “I like this person because this person is outgoing.” We don’t do it that way. We say we like this person because this person has a high competency in creativity, or relationship building, or goal setting, or influencing. (Those are all among the leadership attributes we consider.)

All:

1.) You should have received a confirmation email after submitting the app. You will not receive communication until decision day unless:
a.) your app is incomplete
b.) you get an interview invite

2.) They (actual adcom members) are just beginning to read apps this week. After submission closed, the rest of the week of the 10/25 was used to print and sort apps. Then Rod took last week to do his Director's Review and weed out those that won't get read by anyone else besides him - so there are already a batch of dings. This week, they're being distributed to Rod's officers for reads.

3.) Rod has described the process in detail - he does a Director's Review, and up to 20% of apps get dings at that point. Then, two admissions officers read each of the remaining files and score them (based on 9 different criterion that they don't release), independently. These scores are then inputted into a system, and the top 18-30% (depending on the round, as they admit the same number in each round but round 1 gets less apps than round 2) get interview invites.

4.) Interview scores are inputted and final decisions are made by Rod/the Committee.

So no, you won't have any interviews invites yet, likely not this entire month. Take a breath.

*Above info based on what has been communicated to me from Rod, Jen Burke-Barba, and Deirdre Kane (Admissions Director and Officers, respectively).
