sent in a door?

That's the story Stern tells at their info sessions. Supposedly the restrictions on essay 3 submissions were a result of actual submissions.

Size constraints -> some guy mailed them a door with an essay about how a Stern MBA would open doors for him, or something like that.

Nothing perishable -> people who like cooking have sent in food that they made and explained in an essay why it represented them. (supposedly someone even sent in sushi.)

Nothing worn -> people would send in a stinky old tshirt or sweaty marathon bib and write about it.

I've been to a 3 Stern info sessions and have heard variations on some or all of them at each one. I suspect, like most stories passed down from generation to generation, the telephone game is coming into play here a bit. However, there's probably some truth in there.

In a few years, they'll probably tell the story of how they had to restrict the video length because someone submitted an hour long video.

I did meet a guy at an info session a few days before r1 deadline who said that he is submitting a 20 min short movie.

Oh another note, I still think if you'll get in based on credentials you'll get in anyways no matter how good or crappy your essays are. My previous point was that I am starting to think the essays are def not as important as adcom and others in the biz claim they are.

^^ the more i analyze this whole bschool application process the more I am not sure that is true. I think they only say that essays are crucial to get people who dont necessarily qualify to apply (and for consultants to have a job). most of the people who i know in top bschools dont really need to be there to begin with.
I can understand for H/S/W, especially Stanford with the small class size, but Stern is really quite a bit down the ladder. I'm sure every non-Top 5 school would love to have 99% of their class be Big 3 consulting or BB I-banking with 3.9 GPA and 760+ GMATs but there isn't that many of those candidates that care enough to get a MBA to go around. Also, like you said, the people that really "really" don't need a MBA to be successful will 95% of the times "not" be part of those schools.

My point is, in the end, the average student at a Top 10-15 school were not business world conquerors nor most likely will they ever be. If you're a solid spin doctor in your essays and on your interview, it'll probably be enough to sway at least a few adcoms into giving you a seat.

the last part about the top 10-15 b school student not being a "conqueror" doesnt really make me feel good...is that what most of you applying to NYU think of yourself?

the entire admissions process is a game...helped by some statistics....im sure you've seen people with and without MBA's succeed, just as much as you've seen people from duds community college conquer, while mr shiny hbs diploma fail...

i'll sleep much better knowing my future classmates think of themselves as go getters, and act that way, regardless of the school....

Not to bring back the crazytalk...but my status page just corrected the grammatical toNYU error. There is now a space where once there was not. Maybe that mean's they accessed the app?

Any guesses as to when interview invites for R2 should be released?

Any International from Round 1 waiting for an update on the status... or is it just me!!! My page has not moved a bit since 15th Nov.. no grammatical mistake either to talk about :(

I am too! And I think there are a couple of others from India as well.

Count me in..r1 international from India who hasn't received any update on the status after submitting on Nov 15th. I am now fully prepared for a ding tomorrow!

Sorry to see all the dings here today. I hope you all find another opportunity at another great school.

If anybody is considering reapplying or just wants some feedback on their application, I'm more than happy to discuss via PM.

Edit: Just realized this is my 100th post :)

Sorry to hear the dings.

Does anybody else here apply to JD/MBA?

It's very frustrating because I submitted my JD and MBA app in early November, but I've just gotten a status checker in late Jan from Stern, and nothing else. I just want to know if any JD/MBA applicant heard either way (in or ding)

Thanks
